Four policemen nabbed for alleged hold-up of motorist and passengers
10 December 2013
KUALA LUMPUR : Four policemen on crime prevention rounds were arrested just hours after they allegedly robbed a motorist and his passengers of cash and valuables in Cheras on Sunday.
The policemen, all uniformed constables in their 20s and from the Cheras district police headquarters, had apparently stopped a motorist on the pretext of carrying out routine police checks.
It is learned that they robbed the driver of the car and his passengers of cash and valuables during the "check" before letting them go.
In July, two policemen in their 20s and attached to Istana Negara as guards were implicated in a botched robbery case in Kelana Jaya, Petaling Jaya after a motorcycle used by the robbers was found to belong to a police personnel.
Saravanan Batumalai, a 27-year-old who thwarted the robbery attempt on seeing the robbers attacking a woman, lodged a police report and identified two policemen in a identification parade as the men behind the robbery.
However, Saravanan, who lost his gold chain while fighting off the knife-wielding robbers expressed disappointment when he learned two months later that the case had been thrown out due to lack of evidence to charge the suspects.
