Hannah Yeoh, 32, is a first-time politician with the Democratic Action Party (DAP) in Selangor state.

Before she was elected into office Ms Yeoh says she was the typical working Malaysian, disillusioned with the country's politics and griping about wages not keeping up with inflation.

A friend encouraged Ms Yeoh to stop complaining and register to vote. A few months later she was asked to run for a seat in the General Elections of 2008.

Ms Yeoh's first election turned out to be a historic one. The opposition coalition of which the DAP is a member ended up taking power in a few states and denied the governing party its two-thirds majority in Parliament for the first time in nearly four decades.

Suddenly change was in the air. As an ethnic Chinese, Ms Yeoh says she wants to work against race-based politics that she says is entrenched in the national psyche.

This affects even civic basics like birth certificates, which now require the race of a child to be declared. Ms Yeoh and her husband, an ethnic Indian, are trying to challenge that by registering their newborn baby's race as Malaysian.

Their application was rejected but Ms Yeoh says she will continue to appeal.

Cheras Member of Parliament, Tan Kok Wai (DAP), today asked Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to revise its decision to enter into a privatisation agreement with Katchi Malaysia Sdn Bhd, a company owned by the previously engaged inefficient contractor. He told Mayor Ahmad Fuad Ismail that the owner of Katchi is a shareholder of Ritz Sdn Bhd, whose contract was terminated by DBKL in 2010, for failing to build 1,300 bus and taxi shelters for the council as agreed, and for failing to pay DBKL an annual contribution for being able to sell advertising for the shelters.
The new contract requires Katchi to build 650 shelters within a year and the company is in return granted the right to place two "media units" and 100 advertising billboards in KL. "The fact that the shareholder from the previous company is the owner of Katchi proves that there is only a superficial change in the contract," he claimed, during a meeting between Kuala Lumpur parliamentarians and DBKL today.
He noted that there is also a dubious term in the contract, under which Katchi is only obliged to pay DBKL RM1,868 per shelter yearly, when the shelters are fully deployed. "If they are unable to build 650 shelters, like the last time (under Ritz), does it mean they don't need to pay?" he asked. He also claimed the company has not secured bus shelter sponsorship nor does it have the experience to undertake a privatisation project such as this. Ahmad Fuad, in response, said he would deliberate on the issue. It is known that DBKL is due to sign the agreement in two weeks.
On another note, Seputeh MP Teresa Kok cried foul to the council that the NSK hypermarket in Old Klang Road is breaking council by-laws on operating hours by staying open 24 hours a day. She said petty traders around the area have suffered a great drop in sales because of this.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Fuad gave instructions that officials of not lower than the director rank answer all letters of inquiries from the MPs. This was in view that many questions posed by the MPs in letters were treated lightly by the council, said Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng.
According to Lim, the mayor also agreed to fix a period of one month as the response time to reply questions posed by MPs during meetings.
Lim also expected no redevelopment of the wet market in Taman Tun Dr Ismail as the proposed MRT station opposite it has been scrapped.
The Bukit Bintang MP Fong Kui Lun's representative asked about the application status of squatters in Kampung Kerayong, who would like to shift to the Kampung Muhibah council flats. Fong was one of four absentees at the meeting; the others were Bandar Tun Razak MP Khalid Ibrahim, Setiawangsa MP Zulhasnan Rafique and the late Titiwangsa MP Dr Lo' Lo' Mohd Ghazali.

華夏之夜-北京百人華樂團演奏會黃漢偉：勇於創新華樂生機蓬勃發展

（檳城4日訊）檳州房屋、城鄉發展及藝術委員會主席黃漢偉指出，華樂不但繼承了傳統的精神，也勇於創新，使得華樂在現代的社會中，呈現了蓬勃發展的生機。
"我們要透過推動華樂的發展，使民族音樂走向世界，開創新篇章。"

他週五在拉曼學院禮堂舉行的"華夏之夜-北京百人華樂團演奏會"開幕禮上說，這項國際性的活動，間接為檳城增加了國際接軌的機會，從而讓檳城藝術腳步跟上國際水平。

他指出，州政府希望檳城邁向國際化的同時，也將現代化與社區化融合一體，把檳州打造成為多元、包容、傳統及創新的城市。

"我們通過民間團體的努力，引薦各類不同的國際新興藝術活動，以拓展國人藝術欣賞的多元性，并創造藝術交流機會，就如這場演奏會。"

他說，自2008年開始，州政府每年都會主辦一些活動以慶祝喬治市入遺，尤其今年當局將配合入遺3週年，在7月份主辦"2011年喬治市節慶"。此活動會是喬治市規模最盛大的文藝節慶。

他指出，上述節慶的籌辦除了慶祝入遺外，也展示檳城獨特的多元文化及古蹟，這有助提倡公眾對藝術的興趣，并且鼓勵文化及藝術交流。

這場演奏會是由檳城中藝華樂中心及檳州英才文化康樂中心聯辦，北京中國音樂學院呈獻，吸引不少華樂愛好者及公眾參與其盛。出席尚有北京中國音樂學院院長趙塔里木、華樂節策劃人張正仁等。

（檳城8日訊）檳州首席部長林冠英指出，現在生活中，很多人為了要贏取一場鬥爭，可以不擇手段，不過，他相信檳城下一代，不會耍手段贏得勝利，相反會光明磊落的勝出。
他說，任何比賽過程，皆需堅持以"堂堂正正"的方式贏得比賽，要是靠"玩臭"或者是"偷吃步"贏得對手，也有失風度，更贏得不光采，甚至失去他人的尊重。林冠英週五在檳島市政局體育場，出席公民三校運動會主持開幕儀式致詞時這麼說。

玩臭失風度

他說，不管是在運動場上，工作上或政治上，我們都需要和別人競爭。今天即使輸了，並不代表你是永遠的失敗者，只要肯努力，總會有成功的一天。

黃漢偉展示獎牌憶當年

畢業於公民總校的檳州行政議員兼阿依淡區州議員黃漢偉，週五出席公民三校運動會時感觸良多，勾起他小學生涯的回憶，尤其他曾在三校最後一屆聯合運動會上，贏得男子乙組4x100米接力賽金牌，以及100米銅牌，迄今這些獎牌還保留著。
黃漢偉特地把收藏多年的4x100米接力賽金牌及100米銅牌展示給記者看。
他說，公民三校事隔28年後，再次主辦聯合運動會，給了他很多的美好回憶，也很珍惜當年贏得的獎牌。
沒錢買運動鞋赤腳參賽
"28年前我參加三校運動時只有10歲，之後三校運動會就一直停辦，今年才重新主辦。" "當年參加競跑比賽時，因為家裡貧窮，買不起運動鞋，因此在比賽時我是赤腳參加競跑，同時腳板上只粘上膠布就去參加比賽。"他表示，雖然學校面對經費問題，不過希望公民三校每一年都能夠聯合主辦這項運動會。
"今年三校運動會所需要經費多達2萬令吉，同時也獲得檳州首席部長林冠英、壟尾區州議員楊順興與我個人，都從選區撥款中撥出款項資助部份經費。"

2000口罩派學生

為了學生健康著想，週五黃漢偉送口罩給鍾靈獨中與公民學校學生。他說，總共派發1150個口罩給公民學校，同時也派發850個口罩予週五主辦登水壩比賽的鍾靈獨中。他表示，這些口罩都是由檳州衛生委員會派發，而且他也將會繼續派發口罩予選區內的學校。

（檳城）在加寬工程完成後，從峇都蘭樟巷左轉入發林天德園大道的交通工具不再需要排隊等綠燈，交通堵塞情況獲得舒緩，公眾非常滿意！

峇都蘭樟巷及天德園大道交界處加寬工程是州回教堂路提昇工程的首個階段，這項耗資30萬令吉的工程，於4月18日展開至7月17日，為期3個月。

加寬馬路交通不塞
黃漢偉：接獲大型車難轉投訴

亞依淡區州議員黃漢偉昨日（15日）在檳島市政局工程局官員的陪同下，前往巡視走入尾聲的工程。

他說，根據市政局的調查，在傍晚6時至晚上7時的高峰期，從峇都蘭樟巷左轉進入天德園大道的車輛達每小時1千542輛，由於當時使用交通燈控制交通，導致高峰期時交通嚴重堵塞，交通工具有時甚至需要排長龍至青草巷。

"不過在加寬馬路及安置交通島後，交通工具就可以直接左轉，交通堵塞情況也獲得明顯的改善。"

他說，他也接獲一些投訴，指擔心大型車輛，特別是巨型羅里在轉入天德園大道時面對困難。

他說，提昇道路是為了舒緩交通，而州回教堂路也是檳島的主幹道路，能夠銜接多個地區，因此州政府提出提昇有關道路及其附屬道路的建議。

提昇工程分6階段進行

"州回教堂路提昇工程分為6個階段進行，整個工程預料將在2013年全面竣工。"

另外，針對公眾疑惑設立在峇都蘭樟巷及天德園大道交界處的交通島是否太大，檳島市政局高級工程師（交通）拉詹德蘭說，需要較大的交通島，主要是避免當兩邊的車子同時轉入（從安貧小姐妹會安老院方向右轉，及從峇都蘭樟巷福建公塚左轉）天德園大道時發生碰撞。

再努汀：涉及亞依淡路
次階段工程料下月啟動

檳島市政局交通工程師再努汀說，州回教堂路第二階段提昇工程涉及的路段為亞依淡路及州回教堂路交界處，工程預料將在下月初開始。

他說，有關工程將會加寬從亞依淡路左轉前往蘇格蘭路的路段，讓交通工具可以直接左轉，不受紅綠燈的影響。

左轉進入峇都蘭樟巷
擬加寬道路免等"綠燈"

由天德園大道左轉進入峇都蘭樟巷（安貧小姐妹會安老院方向）路段有計劃會進行加寬，讓交通工具也無需"排隊等綠燈"！

黃漢偉說，有關加寬工程將交由峇都蘭樟巷一項新發展計劃的私人發展商展開，因此必須等待發展計劃施工後才進行。（星洲日報／大北馬）

（檳城）檳州城市及鄉村規劃、房屋委員會主席黃漢偉說，為鼓勵發展商採納綠色建築指數（GBI），檳州政府已通過數項獎掖措施，包括減低發展費和加速批准給符合綠色建筑物指標的發展計劃。

他前日（7月23日）出席綠色建築物指數――獎勵及綠色環保好處及推介新工具研討會開幕時說，州政府關注氣候暖化現象，除實行無塑膠袋日，也鼓勵發展商採用綠色建築指標作為新建築的工程元素。

雖提高成本但有利環境

他說，採納綠色建築指標難免會提高新發展計劃的初期建築成本，不過以長遠來看，該指標有利於整個大環境和達致節省費用的效用。

他也期望中央政府檢討現有的條例，修改及制定適合發展綠色建築的條文，提高人民對綠色建築概念的認知。

溫國亮：應擴大獎掖範圍

大馬綠色建築聯盟（MGBC）主席溫國亮在較後的新聞發佈會說，中央政府為推動綠色建築的發展，宣佈了一系列稅務獎掖以及印花稅減免措施，鼓勵各行業者加入綠色建築行列。

不過，他認為，有關獎掖的範圍和層面應進一步擴大，包括減低土地稅、門牌稅等，達到鼓勵人民購買綠色建筑的目標。目前全國共有181個建築工程申請綠色建築指數證書，其中17份申請是在檳城。但目前只有2個工程取得綠色建築指數證書，包括布城的國家能源大廈。

曾添良建議撥額外獎勵

馬來西亞咨詢工程師協會前主席曾添良則說，綠色建築指數的鑒定工作是每3年進行一次，因此建議政府可以額外撥出獎勵，鼓勵業主繼續保留綠色建築永續發展的理念。出席者包括大馬繪測師公會檳城分會主席林華光及檳島市政局建築部主任尤端祥。（星洲日報／大北馬）

行动党德彬丁宜区州议员黄文标对于怡保区内在不同地点行人道设立铁围栏，
而如此庞大的地方计划连工程告示牌也没有，怡保市议会应该给予人民知情有关"大选前"工
程的详情。

他表示本身在刚过的州议会，在书面问题就有提出该工程由谁来承包？动用到多少公
款？和工程目的？但是得到的答复是问题不被处理。这种答案实在难以让人接受，而
且含有刻意隐瞒事实的嫌疑。

他今日与霹雳州公共投诉局主任郑福基，以及代助理赵丕富。在围栏地点进行观察
后，指霹雳州政府目前负债逾9亿元，政府债务十年内更剧增500%。但是现在没有公告民
众，偷铁不断发生，州议会又不回答问题，州政府还处于负债累累的情况，来进行此计划已暗
示国阵政府让朋党赚大选前横财。

Unless Teng Hock Nan Can Show Proof That The Penang PR State Government Has Approved Berjaya Development Plans For Penang Hill, PR Will Continue To Press BN To Come Clean On RM300 Million Scandals On Tang Hak Ju Land Scams, Pulau Jerejak And Mismanagement Of MPSP Funds.

Penang PR state government will not be distracted by baseless accusations and lies but will instead press for BN to come clean on BN's RM300 million scandals on land scams, Pulau Jerejak and mismanagement of MPSP funds. To-date BN has refused to account and explain for the RM300 million loss in public funds:-
a) RM230 million loss by MPSP in 8 years which made MPSP bankrupt and was only rescued in 2008 when the PR state government took over(See graph);
b) RM30 million loss from sale of developable land in Pulau Jerejak to UDA; and
c) RM40 million loss resulting from the Tang Hak Ju land scam in Bukit Mertajam.

BN state working committee chairman Dr Teng Hock Nan must have the courage to prove his wild and baseless allegations that the PR state government has approved plans to revive the previously rejected Penang Hill development by the Berjaya Group. Failure to do so will sadly mark Teng's imminent departure and end of political career as a liar.

Penang Hill is now managed under the authority of the Penang Hill Corporation, which was established by enactment in the Penang state assembly in 2010. In line with the Penang state government's CAT governance of Competency Accountability and Tranparency, all development projects are carried out by open tender.

Teng alleged that the PR state government's adoption of the Berjaya Group plans will be 100 times more damaging to the environment than the RM25 billion Penang Global City Centre (PGCC) project sanctioned by BN before the PGCC was rejected by the new PR state government.

I wish to reiterate that the Berjaya group has never sent any proposal to develop Penang Hill to the present state government. Neither has the Berjaya group even bid for any of the 3 development projects carried out by open public tender, namely Craig Hotel, the hawker complex and the canopy walk.

So Teng Hock Nan, do you have the guts to show your evidence to prove that the present PR state government has approved Berjaya's plans to develop Penang Hill? If Teng fails to do so, then he should either withdraw his statement and apologise or else be forever branded as a liar.

The latest attempt to distract attention from the real issues of corruption and mismanagement of public assets and funds with non-existent issues only shows how desperate BN is in trying to regain public confidence. BN can take this RM300 million loss lightly because it is not their money but PR will try to get this money back from BN or other connected parties because it belongs to the people. Regrettably BN has not even apologised to the public for causing the RM300 million losses.

BN has no answer to PR anti-corruption stance, CAT governance and open tenders which has even earned Penang praise from Transparency International and The Economist, the first time this has happened in Peanng's history. Unless BN comes clean on this RM300 million scandals, Penangites will never support a party mired in mismanagement and corruption.

除非丁福南可以证明槟州民联政府已经批准了升旗山的成功集团的发展计划，我们将会继续向国阵施压，要他们交代总值3亿令吉的数宗丑闻包括陈合裕土地案、木蔻山及威省市政局舞弊案。

槟州民联政府不会被毫无根据的指责和谎言分散注意力，而会继续向国阵施压，要他们交代总值3亿令吉的数宗丑闻包括陈合裕土地案、木蔻山及威省市政局舞弊案。至今为止，国阵都不愿说明和解释为何亏损高达3亿令吉的公款：

a) 威省市政局在8年内损失2亿3000万令吉，让威省市政局濒临破产，直到了2008年民联接管后才逆转亏损的局面 (见表)。
b) 把木蔻山可发展地卖给城市发展机构，亏损3000万令吉。
c) 大山脚陈合裕土地丑闻案亏损4000万令吉。

槟国阵工作委员会主席丁福南必须拿出勇气，证明他关于民联政府已经批准成功集团的升旗山发展计划（之前已被拒绝）的无根据指控。如果他做不到，只能悲哀地显示丁福南"骗吃"的政治事业已经接近终点。

升旗山目前由升旗山机构管理，这是2010年的州议会上通过的法定机构。州政府秉持能干、公信及透明的施政原则，以公开招标进行所有发展计划。

丁福现指控民联政府接受成功集团的计划，其对环境的破坏力将是国阵认同的、价值250亿令吉槟城环球城中城（PGCC）的100倍（民联政府已经拒绝这项计划）。

我要重申，成功集团从来没来提呈任何有关发展升旗山的发展计划给州政府。成功集团也没有参与三项发展项目（Crag Hotel，综合小贩小心以及天蓬走道）的公开竞标。

所以，丁福南敢不敢拿出你的证据，证明民联政府已经批准了成功集团发展升旗山的计划？如果丁福南拿不出来，那么他应该撤回言论，马上道歉，不然的话，他会一辈子被人们讲成"骗吃"。

国阵到了最后关头，还想无中生有，来转移大家对贪污舞弊、浪费公款的注意力，这证明了国阵要不顾一切地想恢复公众的信心。国阵看来不怎么在乎这笔3亿令吉的损失，因为这不是他们的钱，但是，民联会想办法从国阵或其它相关者的身上拿回这笔钱，因为这是属于人民的钱。很遗憾的是，到目前为止，国阵还没有针对他们造成上述损失，向公众道歉。

国阵回应不了民联的肃贪立场、能干、公信及透明施政、公开招标，甚至让槟城史上第一次赢得国际透明组织及《经济学人》的嘉许。除非国阵交代清楚上述3亿令吉的损失，否则，槟城人民绝对不会再支持任何公款管理不当及贪污的政党。

இந்த பங்குகளை கூட்டரசு அரசாங்கமே வாங்கி அதன் லாபங்களை இந்தியர்களின் நலனுக்காக பயன்படுத்தலாமே என கூறினார். இந்த லாபங்களை வைத்து ஏழ்மையில் உள்ள இந்தியர்களுக்கு, தமிழ்ப்பள்ளிகளின் நிதி, கல்வி நிதி, கல்வி கடனுதவி, வேலை வாய்ப்பு, தனித்து வாழும் தாய்மார்கள், மூத்த குடிமக்கள் என பலருக்கு அல்லது பல துறைகளில் பல வழிகளில் இந்தியர்களுக்கு உதவ முடியுமே என்று அவர் மேலும் கூறினார்.

மக்களின் நலனை காப்பதாகக் கூவிக் கொண்டிருக்கும் அரசாங்கம் முதலில் இந்தியர்களின் பொருளாதார நிலையை அறிந்து இந்தியர்களுக்கு உதவுவதற்கான யுக்திகளை ஆராய்ந்து செயல்படத் தொடங்க வேண்டும். அதுவும், இனியும் காலம் தாழ்த்தாமல் உடனே தொடங்கியாக வேண்டும் என அவர் கேட்டுக் கொண்டார்.
