50 parking lots in TTDI vanish overnight

TTDI residents and visitors want City Hall to explain why 50 public parking lots in Jalan Tun Mohd Fuad 4 have been converted into a no-parking zone. — Picture by Hasriyasyah Sabudin

Residents of and visitors to Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) are puzzled by the disappearance of 50 public parking bays in Jalan Tun Mohd Fuad 4. They say the bays on the road opposite the high-rise Sinaran TTDI condominium vanished last week.
T
o solve the mystery of the missing bays, Streets went on a check last Friday. It was revealed that the lines marking the individual bays had been tarred over and a yellow line, stretching the length of the road, had been painted on to indicate no-parking. However, a City Hall parking ticket dispenser was still standing, as was the signboard indicating the site as public parking space. The change was apparently unknown to some drivers, including foreigners, who parked there and even dutifully placed parking coupons on their dashboards.
C
.Y. Sia, is among those unaware of the change. During a visit to TTDI last week, he parked there, thinking it was a legal parking spot -- and was issued with a summons. Sia, a retiree who lives inBandar Utama, said: "There are limited parking bays in the area. Private parking lots here are expensive, costing RM2 an hour, while City Hall lot rates are only 50 sen an hour."
TTDI resident Ng Ah Hooi wants to know how the parking bays were removed without the residents' knowledge. "Neither the residents nor the public were informed, it is as though it happened overnight," he said. The businessman in his 50s lives in Jalan Rahim Kajai and drives to Jalan Tun Mohd Fuad 4 daily to run errands. He said the parking bays were needed in the traffic-congested area. "If legal parking space is not available, motorists will have no choice but to park their vehicles indiscriminately or illegally, which will worsen the congestion here. "This area is high-density, with many high-rise condominiums, offices and a market. "People will start parking on double lines and dividers, and we could end up like our 'neighbours' in Uptown, Damansara Utama, who are facing serious parking problems," he said.
Another TTDI resident J.K.T. Hin, 64, said City Hall should focus instead on Jalan Aminuddin Baki, which is plagued by indiscriminate parking. "Why hasn't City Hall done anything about the haphazard parking problem in Jalan Aminuddin Baki and Lorong Rahim Kajai 14? "It should consider putting up no-parking and towing-zone signboards, especially inJalan Aminuddin Baki, which is a double-parking hot spot," said the retiree.
M
eanwhile, Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng has called for an explanation from City Hall. He said he had sent an official letter to KL Mayor Datuk Seri Ahmad Fuad Ismail on April 27. His service centre has been flooded by complaints on the matter in the the past week. He said he received an average of 20 complaints daily from visitors to the commercial district who had been issued with summonses for parking in Jalan Tun Mohd Fuad 4. "It is possible that the developer of Sinaran TTDI could have removed the bays without City Hall's consent," Lim said. "If it has received City Hall's consent, however, the road, which is a public road, has to be re-gazetted. "The re-gazettement process takes a minimum of six months. The authorities would have to table the proposal in Parliament, get feedback from the public, go back to Parliament to get a vote, and get the King's consent. After all that is done, they would have to officially inform the public of the change in the newpapers," he said.
UDA Holdings Bhd, the developer of Sinaran TTDI, was unavailable for comment at press time.

MCA Trying To Hide Its Ineffectiveness In Improving The Livelihood Of The People And Complete Failure To Prevent Rising Costs As Shown By The 20 Cents Increase In RON 97 Petrol To RM2.90 Per Liter

Former Wanita chief Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz's rejection of Utusan Malaysia and Perkasa's 1 Melayu, 1 Bumi movement because it will threaten Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's 1 Malaysia is not echoed by other top UMNO leaders. In fact, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin has refused to disagree with the 1Melayu,1 bumi movement or even repeat Najib's evasive answer of it being a only personal opinion of Utusan Malaysia's editors.

DAP regrets that instead of mounting a campaign against Utusan Malaysia provocative, extremist and dangerous ideology, MCA Deputy President Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai has chosen instead to label DAP as real racists. What happened to MCA's previous loud calls to boycott Utusan?

Has this latest MCA boycott campaign quietly fizzled out because of fear of Muhyiddin warnings that boycotting Utusan Malaysia could risk muzzling the voice of the Malay community as Utusan represented the voice of the Malays? It is inconceivable that a newspaper that endorses hatred, violence, racial dominance or supremacy and wants to celebrate the bloody May 13 tragedy that killed innocent Malaysians as a holy day, can represent the voice of the Malays.

No one is surprised that MCA has once again shown that it would do UMNO's bidding by abandoning its proposed boycott Utusan campaign and obediently heed the "advice" given by Muhyiddin. However, it is surprising that MCA has instead decided to launch into a ferocious and rabid attack on DAP as the real racists. Clearly MCA feels that DAP is easier to bully than Utusan Malaysia a classic case of fearing the wicked and bullying the good.

MCA has no right to label DAP as racists when DAP is a multi-racial party fighting for all Malaysians regardless of race, religion, gender or even political affiliation. This is proven by PR's good governance and record of treating all equally. Instead it is MCA and UMNO that are the real racists for fighting only for the Chinese or only for the Malays respectively.

There is no need for MCA to use the "empty fortress" strategm by threatening and frightening the Chinese voters to vote for MCA or else there will be no Chinese representation in government. MCA hopes to claw back popular support by using this "empty fortress" strategy to force the Chinese community to turn and run away from DAP.

MCA can easily regain lost popular support if MCA dares to fight the injustices, abuses of power and corruption perpetrated by UMNO. Sadly MCA has chosen to submit to UMNO's dominance and play UMNO's racial game of divide and rule. How can Liow Tiong Lai claim that this historic decision is a democratic one when it strikes against the basic democratic right of the voters to choose freely without fear of favour?

MCA is trying to distract attention from its ineffectiveness to improve the livelihood of the people and complete failure to prevent rising costs as shown by the 20 cents increase in RON 97 petrol to RM2.90 per liter.

MCA’s “Empty Fortress” An Empty Threat As MCA Has Never Resisted The Temptations Of Privilege And Perks Associated With Posts And Positions To Fight For Principles Of Right And Wrong.(en/cn)

Posted: 04 May 2011 01:33 AM PDT

The swearing-in of Datuk Lee Kim Shin as Sarawak assistant infrastructure development and communications minister yesterday has exposed the BN's "empty fortress" strategy to frighten the Chinese voters to vote for BN or else there will be no Chinese representation in government as an empty threat. This empty nest strategy is hoped to force the Chinese community to turn and run away from DAP.

Clearly such threats are made before elections but when posts and positons are offered after elections, as happened to SUPP Datuk Wong Soon Koh and Datuk Lee Kim Shin, BN leaders will never be able to resist the temptation of the perks and privileges available to fight for principles of right and wrong. What is sad is that MCA President Datuk Seri Chua Soi Lek had allowed both Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin to racialise the Sarawak elections results instead of a democratic call for change..

No one believes MCA would carry out its threat to reject positions or posts should the voters reject MCA again at the next general elections. After all if voters have rejected BN, why is it that MCA dare not withdraw from BN? Whether MCA wins big or loses big in general elections, MCA would continue to be given 4 minor Ministerial posts.

Just like Gerakan President Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon who promised during the 2008 general elections that he would reject any back-door appointment as Senator to become a Minister or SUPP's Datuk Wong Soon Koh and DAtuk Lee who secretly accepted their appointments in defiance of their party, no MCA leader would reject the opportunity for such high posts that they have been fighting for all their political career.

Chua Soi Lek has been exposed as an unprincipled leader by ex-MCA President Datuk Ong Tee Keat for Chua not practicing what he preaches by directing its sole Assemblyman and EXCO in Perak or Negeri Sembilan to resign. Neither has Chua the courage to direct its 4 Ministers in Cabinet to resign as MCA lost badly in the 2008 general elections. This agains confirms MCA's struggle is not about principles but for positions, not fighting for the people but for posts.

After all, it has proven time and time again that whether or not MCA is represented in Cabinet makes no difference as MCA as merely puppets of UMNO. Issues affecting Malaysians are ignored and corruption allowed to run rampant until RM888 billion of illicit or "black" money was secretly and illegally taken out from 2000-2008.

When UMNO made a unilateral decision to invite PAS to join BN, MCA dare not protest UMNO's dictatorial decision as undemocratic. And yet MCA dares to threaten Malaysians for exercising their democratic rights not to vote for MCA.
