Questions have been raised over the project that connects the new palace to Jalan Duta followong claims that it is misaligned. Questions have been raised over an uncompleted flyover connecting the new palace to Jalan Duta.
Motorists who have been plying the Jalan Duta highway have expressed concern over the safety of the flyover. They are also worried as a section of the flyover looks misaligned. The issue has also been highlighted on blogs and Facebook.
A check by Streets recently showed that there is a dip of 0.5m and the flyover, which is located next to the Indian High Commission, has shifted 0.5m to the left. Motorists are also questioning the delay on the completion of the flyover which should have been ready in March. However, a notice board at the site indicated that the flyover project would be completed on May 11 this year.
It was reported that the Works Ministry had in August last year awarded the flyover project, which was estimated to cost more than RM100 million, to Ahmad Zaki Resources Bhd. Both the Works Ministry and Ahmad Zaki Resources Bhd were unreachable for comment.
Segambut member of parliament Lim Lip Eng also questioned the delay in the project. He claimed that the project was scheduled to be completed in March. "The project due date (March) was posted on the notice board and now they have extended the project to May. "The delay would have incurred additional expenditure and the Works Ministry has to answer for it. The Works Ministry just can't keep digging into the taxpayers' pockets," he said. Lim also said he had received many phone calls about the uncompleted flyover. "The flyover looks misaligned and motorists are wondering if the structure is safe. When I contacted the Works Ministry to enquire about the project, they said the flyover was not under their jurisdiction and asked us to contact Ahmad Zaki Resources Bhd. "The Federal Government awarded this project to the developer, so shouldn't the Works Ministry be aware of what is going on? We hope that the Works Ministry can give us an explanation about what's going on."
Lim also questioned the cost of the flyover which he claimed had escalated beyond the stipulated budget. "We had questioned the Works Ministry last year in Parliament over the cost of the project and they said that they are unable to reveal the cost until the project is completed." Lim said he will be raising this issue again at the next Parlimentary session in June. "I will ask the ministry to give us its assurance that the flyover is safe and reveal the cost of the project."

Media Yang Bebas Dapat Tegakkan Demokrasi, Keadilan, Kebenaran, Dan Integriti Yang Kurangkan Rasuah Dan Penyelewengan.(bm/cn)

Posted: 02 May 2011 10:37 PM PDT

Utusan Hari Kebebasan Media Oleh Setiausha-Agung DAP Dan Ahli Parlimen Kawasan Bagan Lim Guan Eng Di Kuala Lumpur Pada 3.5.2011.

Media Yang Bebas Dapat Tegakkan Demokrasi, Keadilan, Kebenaran, Dan Integriti Yang Kurangkan Rasuah Dan Penyelewengan.

Seperti yang disebut-sebutkan,"The Devil may quote the Scriptures for its purpose!".

DAP Will Work With PR To Launch A 5-Year Plan To Change The State Government To Return Sarawak To Sarawakians Based On 3 Main Operational Thrusts (en/cn).

Posted: 02 May 2011 10:31 PM PDT

Despite falling short of the effort to deny BN its 2/3 majority, PR did creditably by doubling opposition seats to 16. The popular vote of BN also fell from 63% in 2006 state general elections to 55%. Unfortunately one of the injustice of constituency delineation leaves the opposition at an unfair disadvantange is that despite BN winning only 55% of the popular vote, BN could still win 77% of the seats.

This unfair victory of BN winning 77% of the seats despite getting only 55% of the popular vote is one of the key reasons why Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud refuses to step down. However the nervousness of Taib at this reduced victory can be seen when he had to get himself sworn in as Chief Minister at near midnight. Why get sworn in in such great haste in the dark and stormy night and not wait a few days later to do it properly in broad daylight?

Is Taib afraid that Putrajaya will intervene and prevent Taib from taking charge of Petra Jaya?

The onus is now on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to deliver 3 basic demands from the people of Sarawak:-
• get Taib to resign;
• increase oil royalties of 5% to 20% annually or RM1.5 billion to RM6 billion per year; and
• improve basic infrastructure of water, electricity and roads to reduce poverty in Sarawak which is amongst the poorest states in Malaysia.

Should the Prime Minister fail to deliver these 3 basic demands, then Sarawakians need not wait 5 years for the next state elections but can make their unhappiness clear at the national general elections expected within a year.

There is no racial divide in the support for PR and DAP. BN wants to cover up and distract attention from the real message of the voters for change, end Taib's rule and corruption as well as promote good governance. DAP could only double our seats from 6 to 12 because we obtained the support from all ethnic groups, including non-Chinese, in the urban areas. If there is a divide, it is a urban-rural divide that PR and DAP has to bridge if there is to be a change of government in Sarawak.

DAP will work with Pakatan Rakyat(PR) to launch a 5-year plan to change the state government to return Sarawak to Sarawakians based on 3 main operational thrusts as follows:-
1. Preparing for government by monitoring and proposing policies in the State Assembly with the establishment of the first shadow Cabinet in Sarawak's history that addresses all the portfolios.
2. Winning over the rural voters with programs and direct engagement whether Chinese, Ibans, Bidayuh, Melanau/Malay or bumiputeras by adopting the model followed by Kiduorng ADUN Chiu Chiu Sing who obtained 64% of non-Chinese support;
3. Multiplying the recruiting of new supporters so that DAP can establish a wide support network.

The time has come for change. Our future has been stolen, we can not allow our children's future to be stolen also. Only if the people of Sarawak in both the urban and rural areas stand up together for Sarawak, then only can the future for our children be protected.

Let us stand up together so that Sarawak can step out into the international stage and realise its full potential by marrying Sarawak's abundant natural resources with the talented human resource.

Speech By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng During The Miri DAP Thanksgiving Dinner On 2.5.2011 Released In Kuching On 3 May 2011.

• 促泰益辞职;

MCA Has No Respect For Democracy When MCA Dares To Help UMNO Threaten And Punish Chinese Voters Who Fail To Support BN But Dare Not Threaten And Punish UMNO(en/bm/cn)

Posted: 02 May 2011 10:40 PM PDT

MCA Has No Respect For Democracy When MCA Dares To Help UMNO Threaten And Punish Chinese Voters Who Fail To Support BN But Dare Not Threaten And Punish UMNO For Its Unilateral Invitation To PAS To Join BN To Promote Malay And Islamic Unity.

MCA has no respect for democracy when MCA President Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek dares to help UMNO threaten and punish Chinese voters who fail to support BN but dare not threaten and punish UMNO for its unilateral invitation to PAS to join BN to promote Malay and Islamic unity. Clearly this is a classic case of double-standards where voters are punished for practicing democracy and the freedom of choice whereas a dictatorial UMNO can escape unpunished for making unilateral decisions on BN's behalf without first consulting and getting approval from BN component members like MCA.

UMNO is BN and BN is UMNO. Once again UMNO and Chua has proven that whether there is or not any representation by MCA in government is irrelevant. MCA representation clearly does not serve the Chinese or Malaysians but serve only UMNO.

Similarly BN, MCA and UMNO's is exposed as playing racial and extremist politics by only talking about Chinese unity, Malay unity or Islamic unity at the expense of 1 Malaysia or Malaysian unity. To date neither the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's focus on Malay and Islamic unity nor his deputy Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin support of "1Melayu, 1 bumi" or "I am Malay first and Malaysian second" is consistent with 1 Malaysia.

Instead of justifying such self-contradictory positions by UMNO, Chua tried to provoke both non-Malay and Malay sentiments by stating that he will vote for PKR if PKR can revoke Article 153 of the Federal Constitution and abolish Malay special position. This is contrary to PR or DAP's position of respecting Article 153 of the Federal Constitution.

DAP has consistently asked for the full significance of Article 153 to be practiced whereby not just the special position of the Malays but the legitimate rights of other races be safeguarded. Instead BN leaders have used this Article not to enrich and protect Malaysians but to enrich themselves contrary to the basic principles of accountability and transparency.

Article 153 has been used by UMNO to equate the special position of Malays with special rights to quotas and crony projects for UMNO leaders such as the RM 52 billion bumi share scandal which was "hijacked" and not distributed to ordinary Malays. Similarly MCA leaders in BN has also used the provision of safeguarding the legitimate rights of the non-Malays under Article 153 of the Federal Constitution to mean the right to engage in dishonest business activities at the expense of the public as shown by the RM 13.5 billion Port Klang Free Trade Zone scandal.

How serious the extent of corruption in Malaysia can be seen by the Washington-based Global Financial Integrity Report which revealed that Malaysia lost RM 888 billion from illegal funds outflow from 2000-2008? So huge is this illegal funds outflow from Malaysia that if this RM888 billion was distributed to every single Malaysian man, woman and child each MyKad holder would receive RM33,000/-!

No one believes MCA would carry out its threat to reject positions or posts should the voters reject MCA again at the next general elections. After all if voters have rejected BN, why is it that MCA dare not withdraw from BN? Whether MCA wins big or loses big in general elections, MCA would continue to be given 4 minor Ministerial posts.

Just like Gerakan President Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon who promised during the 2008 general elections that he would reject any back-door appointment as Senator to become a Minister or SUPP's Datuk Wong Soon Koh who secretly accepted appointment as Sarawak State Minister in defiance of his party, no MCA leader would reject the opportunity for such high posts that they have been fighting for all their political career.

Chua Soi Lek has been exposed as an unprincipled leader by ex-MCA President Datuk Ong Tee Keat for Chua not practicing what he preaches by directing its sole Assemblyman and EXCO in Perak or Negeri Sembilan to resign. Neither has Chua the courage to direct its 4 Ministers in Cabinet to resign as MCA lost badly in the 2008 general elections. This agains confirms MCA's struggle is not about principles but for positions, not fighting for the people but for posts.

Malaysians should reject such racial and extremist politics by UMNO and MCA. DAP believes Malaysians would also reject politics of fear and intimidation, reaffirming instead our basic democratic right to freely choose our elected representatives based on their performance and not be forced to support bad governance.

LIM GUAN ENG

Kenyataan Akhbar oleh Setiausaha Agung DAP merangkap Ahli Parlimen Bagan, YAB Lim Guan Eng di Ibu Pejabat DAP Pulau Pinang pada 2 Mei 2011.
________________________________________________________________

Minister taken to task over minimum wage tweets

K Pragalath | May 1, 2011

Human Resources Minister comes under fire for suggesting that higher wage depends on increased productivity.

PETALING JAYA: DAP economist and Klang MP Charles Santiago today lashed out at Human Resources Minister Dr S Subramaniam over his comments which appeared to demean the demands for a minimum wage.

"In the last 10-15 years, workers face wage stagnation. Their wages increased only by 2.6% during the same period," said Santiago.

He added that to make matters worse, household debts make up 78% of the Gross Domestic Product which contributes to 50% of Malaysians to be highly in debts.

He was responding to comments made by Subramaniam on minimum wage this morning when he alluded that high income as sought by the proponents of minimum wage must be in tandem with increased productivity.

The minister, also the MIC deputy president tweeted: "Income should increase with productivity. Prices in Malaysia are competitive on a global scale.

"Shift of industry towards knowledge and technology will move wages up," he added.

A clearly peeved Santiago also debunked the notion that skilled workers earned more.

"A total of 400,000 skilled Malaysian workers are working in Singapore because the salary scale for the skilled work force is lower here compared to Singapore," he said.

Elaborating further Santiago said that the Human Resources Ministry is only contemplating of setting the minimum wage at RM500 to RM700. The current poverty line is set at RM720.

"The round table conference on minimum wage which I hosted on Friday determined that the minimum wage should be on the scale of RM1,500 to RM2,000," he said.

He also raised concerns over who was in charge of determining the minimum wage – was it the Human Resources Ministry or the Performance Management and Delivery Unit (Pemandu) of the Prime Minister's Department.

Muhyiddin & Mahathir: Biggest Obstacles to High Income Nation

Posted: 02 May 2011 06:58 AM PDT

Datuk Seri Najib Razak's ambitious goal of becoming a high income nation of US$15,000 per capita by 2020 faces the biggest stumbling blocks in the form of his predecessor Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammed and his likely successor, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for their strident opposition to a fairer and more inclusive Malaysian society.

The just released World Bank report on brain drain in Malaysia proved beyond doubt that "social injustice" as a result of the New Economic Policy (NEP) was the key reason why hundreds of thousands of the country's best talents had left our shores for greener pastures. The report survey had indicated that 60% of respondents have cited "social injustice" as a key reason for their leaving the country.

In addition, an overwhelming 87% of respondents had suggested that a "paradigm shift away from race-based towards needs-based affirmative action" may entice a migrant to return to Malaysia. At the same time, 82% of respondents also called for "fundamental and positive change in the Government and public sector".

The World Bank model also found that Malaysia would have attracted more than 5 times our Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) at US$15 billion instead of only US$3.8 billion in the 3 years 2007-2009 had we retained our skills base and adopted a more open investment policy regime.

The Report has called for a comprehensive policy on "inclusiveness" to bring back talent into the country and stem the accute outflow of skilled workers as a critical measure to fulfil our goals of becoming a high income nation by 2020.

Prime Minister Najib had taken some initial steps towards greater inclusiveness by defining "1Malaysia" in the Government Transformation Plan (GTP) as the goal where every Malaysian sees themselves as Malaysians first, their race, religion, class and geography second.

The "original" New Economic Model as announced by Najib had called for reforms on the race-based affirmative action system to a need-based one.

However both these initiatives which are crucial towards a more "inclusive" Malaysia were killed with the strident racial supremacy agenda expounded by Najib's Deputy, Muhyiddin and his predecessor, Mahathir.

Muhyiddin made a joke of the "1Malaysia" definition by stating that he's "Malay First" with his now infamous quote "How can I say I'm Malaysian first and Malay second, all the Malays will shun me". He has further aggravated the racial schism with his open endorsement of Utusan Malaysia's "1Melayu, 1Bumi" movement just a week ago.

Mahathir who has on the other hand dismissed the World Bank report "useless" and accused them of being "politically motivated" without even bothering to rebutt any of the results of the study. In fact, Mahathir must take the biggest responsibility for causing the huge drain in talent during his long reign from 1982 to 2003 which has consistently increased to some 1 million people today.

Instead of taking a statesman role to encourage greater racial unity and integration post retirement, Mahathir has chosen to sponsor and be the patron of the increasingly militant Perkasa movement, hell-bent on institutionalise a Malay-dominant society. It was Perkasa rapid rise which had caused Najib to roll back the most critical reforms in NEM needed to achieve a high income nation status.

Najib must pay heed to the advise and warnings presented in the World Bank Report. By remaining in denial, or succumbing to the pressures from Muhyiddin and Mahathir will not only lead to the failure of Talent Corporation, but also Malaysia missing out on our high income nation target.
