Police have submitted the investigation papers involving a bank manager who alleged he was wrongfully detained by police for three days to the Deputy Public Prosecutor. Malacca police chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Datuk Chuah Ghee Lye said both investigation papers one lodged by the police and the other by Hiew Kok Ming were submitted several days ago. "We are waiting for further instruction from the DPP as to the next course of action."
On Friday, Hiew, 26, handed a letter to the Inspector-General of Police about the alleged abuse of power after he claimed he was initially stopped by a traffic policeman for not wearing a seat belt on May 28 while driving along Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho in Malacca.
He said he was unsure if the person was a real policeman as his nametag and serial number were hidden by the black strap across his uniform. He then took a photograph of the traffic policeman on his mobile phone and believed that incident had upset the traffic cop. Hiew alleged that he was subsequently detained and remanded for three days.

UMNO’s tacit support for Perkasa’s inflammatory and dangerous threats shows that 1Malaysia is nothing but lip service and an empty slogan (En/Bm/Cn)

Posted: 20 Jun 2011 02:06 AM PDT

Press Statement By Penang Chief Minister And DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 20 June 2011.

UMNO's tacit support for Perkasa's inflammatory and dangerous threats shows that 1Malaysia is nothing but lip service and an empty slogan.

Perkasa president Datuk Ibrahim Ali's recent vile actions and malicious remarks at the launch of the Bersih 2.0 counter-protest at Kampung Baru are nothing short of seditious. Not only were pictures of Bersih chairperson Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan burned and stomped upon, flyers were distributed describing her as a 'dangerous Hindu woman'.

Ibrahim Ali also then raised the threat of another May 13, by proclaiming himself a 'war general' and warning of severe repercussion for the Chinese community if they proceed with the Bersih march. He also suggested that the Chinese community may have to stock up on food should anything happen.

Never before in Malaysian history has anyone issued such an irresponsible and racist statement by calling on a certain community to stock up on food. Such a remark is clearly unacceptable by every peace-loving Malaysian.

By allowing such fascistic and Nazi-like threats by Ibrahim Ali, UMNO is indeed showing its true colours as a party that survives on racial division. In its refusal to take action, UMNO is therefore guilty of supporting Perkasa and its stand. In fact, this has been obvious for quite some time, as demonstrated by UMNO's lack of will in taking action in numerous cases such as the Cow's head protest in 2009 and various remarks by their leaders equating Indians to beggars and Chinese women to prostitutes.

This clearly proves that 1 Malaysia is nothing more than an exercise in self-delusion and mass deception.

UMNO must stop fanning racial and religious sentiments, as it is extremely dangerous and will lead to unrest. The fact of the matter is that Malaysians all live peacefully and have no problem with each other.

In Penang, the Pakatan Rakyat's open tender policy was attacked by UMNO as an attempt to deny Malays their economic opportunities, but this fallacy has been proven wrong by the fact that 70% of all Penang State Government contracts are won by Malay contractors.

In other words, this shows that it is not Malay contractors who are unable to compete, but in fact UMNO contractors who cannot keep up in a fair competition. The open tender system has since been implemented without any unhappiness from Malay contractors because not only do they benefit, they have also succeeded on their own merit.

It is obvious that UMNO, which is now politically bankrupt, is unable to raise any other issue besides race and religion, which is conveniently used to not only scare the people, but also to cover up their shortcomings.

Instead of focusing on race and religion, perhaps UMNO and Barisan Nasional should explain why they are allowing the Lynas Rare Earth Plant in Kuantan to be built, despite all the dangers inherent in such a move. To justify their decision, they have brought a panel of radiological experts from the IAEA to review the case. However, not only does the panel contain no public health and environmental expert, the IAEA is also seen to be industry-driven, and is expected to rubber-stamp their approval.

Perhaps the BN Government is also trying to pull a wool over Malaysian eyes in the face of the RM1.8million Tourism Malaysia Facebook scandal. Malaysians are baffled and in disbelief over the fact that the Ministry has spent such an exorbitant amount of money on a social media website that is available for free.

If, as Tourism Minister Ng Yen Yen claims, that the money was also spent for publicity and advertising for their campaign, then Malaysians want to know why despite so much money spent the Facebook page only managed to garner slightly over 20,000 fans. In contrast, the Visit Penang Facebook page, which was set up for free and operated by only 1 staff, managed to attract more than 100,000 fans.

Instead of finding ways to waste public money, Ng Yen Yen and other MCA leaders should try standing up to their 'Big Brother' UMNO in the face of the latter's dangerous racial and religious posturing.

Kenyataan Akhbar oleh Ketua Menteri Pulau Pinang Dan Setiausaha Agung DAP, Lim Guan Eng pada 20 Jun 2011 Di Kuala Lumpur.

Sikap berdiam diri UMNO menyokong ancaman dan hasutan merbahaya Perkasa menunjukkan bahawa 1Malaysia tiada apa-apa pengertian tapi hanyalah manis di bibir dan slogan kosong.
________________________________________________________________

Surat YAB Lim Guan Eng kepada Menteri Kesihatan Malaysia Dato Seri Liow Tiong Lai untuk Membatalkan Kontrak Perkhidmatan Penyelenggaraan oleh Faber Medi-Serve Sdn Bhd untuk Semua Hospital di Pulau Pinang demi Menjamin Keselamatan Awam (Bm/Cn)

20 Jun 2011

YB Dato Sri Liow Tiong Lai
Menteri Kesihatan Malaysia
Ibu Pejabat KKM Blok E1, E6, E7 & E10
Kompleks E, Pusat Pentadbiran Kerajaan Persekutuan
62590 Putrajaya

Kit Siang slams inaction over Ibrahim’s veiled threats

KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 — Calling it the most "bloodcurdling and incendiary" statement made in public, DAP's Lim Kit Siang questioned today Putrajaya's silence against Perkasa's warning to ethnic Chinese to "stay home" and "stock up on food" on July 9.

Perkasa president Datuk Ibrahim Ali, who founded the grassroots Malay nationalist group, had yesterday launched a counter-strike to the July 9 public rally organised by electoral reform group Bersih 2.0.

There, he declared "If the Bersih rally is not cancelled… I believe the Chinese community will have to stock up on food".

"If an emergency declared, will the Agong be able to appoint a caretaker leader? Maybe they (the opposition) will take to the streets and demand that they take over the government," the Independent Pasir Mas MP added.

Lim, who is Ipoh-Timur MP, said he was shocked by his parliamentary colleague's provocative remarks, highlighting that the Bersih campaign is about free and fair elections and had nothing to do with race.

He demanded the federal government explain why no action has been taken against Ibrahim.

"The question is not about the tirade from Ibrahim Ali but why has he been given the immunity and impunity to make such provocation.

"Why is the home minister, the prime minister and the IGP closing their eyes to such provocation and strengthening the impression they are complicit or conspiring with such a threat?" the seasoned DAP politician asked.

He added that it was not only Ibrahim but Umno-owned newspaper, Utusan Malaysia, which was behind the move to "demonise the Bersih campaign in racial terms and to subvert the democratic process and topple a democratically-elected government, without basis".

The opposition leader said the show of muscle reflected the desperation of the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition's lynchpin, Umno.

"They know they're in their last months of power because they have lost the public's confidence," Lim told The Malaysian Insider.

Klang MP Charles Santiago slammed Ibrahim for Perkasa's provocative stand, labelling the latter an "unmitigated bigot".

"By focusing on the Chinese, he is saying that the Chinese are weak politically, cowing them into subordination," he said.

Santiago, who is also a DAP member, echoed Lim in saying the Bersih march was not about Chinese, Indian or Malays but fighting for a level playing field in Malaysia.

"This is a wakeup call. We don't need bigots like Ibrahim Ali, he is a man looking for relevance," he said.

Perkasa had kicked off its "Peace March" at the centre of Malay nationalism, the Kelab Sultan Sulaiman in Kampung Baru here yesterday by burning images of Bersih chairman Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan.

Its self-declared "war general", Ibrahim, said Perkasa will also march on July 9 if Bersih does, but washed his hands off responsibility for any untoward incident that might happen on that day.

"Yes, anything can happen. And so I ask the police to act and use whatever powers are at their disposal," he told some 500 supporters at the launch.
