Life is daily being torn down by sordid images of sex video and graphic descriptions of a certain sodomy court

Posted: 27 Apr 2011 06:27 PM PDT

Dear YB,
As a parent, I work hard to ensure, at least in my own home, that my children are protected from the assaults of sex upon their tender senses. I am angered that what I work so hard at is daily being torn down by sordid images of sex video and graphic descriptions of a certain sodomy court case taking place right now. This is a violation of my personal space as well as that of my family and is completely unacceptable. Please raise this issue to the public and pressure BN to stop such violations through our media. Media practitioners themselves also must be pressured into being prudent what is being published or broadcasted. Otherwise, how can our children be kept safe from such depraved assaults?
Please speak up for us.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Doh Mee Yuen

Only Pakatan Rakyat(PR) Will Place More Importance On The People’s Health And Public Safety Than The Blind Pursuit Of Profits By Ensuring ThatThere Are No Nuclear Facility Or Rare Earths Mines In Penang.(en/bm/cn)

Posted: 27 Apr 2011 09:27 PM PDT

Only PR will place more importance on the people's health and public safety than the blind pursuit of corporate profits by ensuring that there are no nuclear facilities or rare earths mines in Penang. Shocking online revelations that the Perak state government had secretly agreed to allow a Hong Kong company to explore and mine for rare earths in the state, even as controversy is raging over the Lynas refinery in Gebeng, Pahang.

In a filing to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange dated April 18, CVM Minerals Limited announced it had entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Perak State Development Corporation (PSDC) to carry out the project in Bukit Merah, Ipoh.

The Hong Kong company, through its local subsidiary CVM Metal Recycle Sdn Bhd, has applied to the state's land and mineral office for a licence to explore the area, covering 250 hectares, for rare earths.

Bukit Merah is the site of Malaysia's last rare earths plant 20 years ago, which is still undergoing a massive RM300 million clean-up. Once the licence is granted, CVM Minerals and PKNP would enter into an agreement setting out the terms and conditions of their participation in the project. According to the proposed joint-venture, CVM Minerals would be the major shareholder while PKNP would control 135,300,000 shares of CVM Minerals, approximately 4.73 percent of the entire issued share capital.

Environmentalists have raised questions over radioactive waste being produced and stored at Lynas's Gebeng plant, fearing a repeat of the Japanese-owned Mitsubishi Chemical's Asian Rare Earth (ARE) plant, which has been linked to eight cases of leukaemia, seven resulting in death. Recently the Federal government had announced a one-month review of the nearly completed Australian-owned Lynas rare-earth refinery in Pahang following health and safety concerns.

Not just the people of Perak but many Malaysians oppose this short-sighted decision.
Clearly BN in its pursuit for blind profits is willing to put aside environmental concerns and place the health and safety of the people at risk. The people of Perak must quickly restore the PR government of Dato Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin to prevent this rare earth mines from operating in Perak.

First it is Pahang and now Perak, rare earths plants spring up unhindered without proper and full consultation with the people of its possible high risk impact.

Only PR-ruled states have taken a firm and uncompromising stand against rare-earth refineries and mines. PR states like Penang have even gone a step further by writing to the Federal Government opposing any proposed nuclear energy facility to be located in the state.

The Penang state government had written to Dato Sri Peter Chin Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water, on 21 March 2011 opposing the building of a nuclear plant in Malaysia. The Penang state government had also affirmed the ban on any such facility in Penang.

In the light of the nuclear disaster in a highly-advanced country like Japan, the BN government should not proceed. How can BN be trusted to ensure the safety and health standards of such a dangerous and high risk project like nuclear plant, when the BN government can not build a stadium without its roof collapsing or the roof of Parliament leaking?

In his reply to me on 20 April 2011 Dato Sri Peter Chin said that it was unlikely that any such nuclear facility would be built in Penang due to the high population density. However he stated the BN government's determination to proceed with the building of the nuclear plants by 2020 elsewhere in Malaysia.

The people of Penang can sleep safely and be assured of their children's health as long as PR is in power. Unfortunately for those living in BN states, they will likely have a nuclear plant by 2020. Clearly BN is willing to gamble with the people's health and safety.

Only a PR ruled state like Penang is not willing to take such risks. For this reason the people of Perak and Pahang as well as other BN states should learn an important lesson that only a PR ruled state can ensure that there is no rare earths refinery or mines or nuclear facilities to threaten their health and safety of their families.

Posted: 27 Apr 2011 12:30 AM PDT

EC Showing Biased Colours

Posted: 27 Apr 2011 02:45 AM PDT

EC is demonstrating utter contempt for free and fair elections by parroting lies by Barisan Nasional leaders to denigrate the DAP, without an iota of evidence.

In the Utusan Malaysia column by Zulkifli Jalil "Kekang sentiment cauvinis" today, he quoted Deputy Commissioner of Election Commission (EC), Datuk Wan Ahmad Wan Omar as having accused DAP of running a racist campaign in the recently concluded Sarawak elections.

He had argued that most of DAP's banners in Chinese contained racial elements which were incendiary in nature, during his inspection round on the 14 April and were in breach of the Section 4 of the Election Offences Act. However, because there were "too many" of such posters and banners, the SPR and police were unable to take any action.

He even quoted the Minister of Information, Communication and Culture, Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim who accused that DAP Pending candidate, Violet Yong had argued that "we have had enough of a Melanau being the Chief Minister" ("dah cukup masa orang Melanau jadi CM") in a "closed door ceramah".

The EC Deputy Commissioner even argued that there were too many "closed door ceramahs" conducted during the election!

The above accusations unfortunately are all desperate lies by the Datuk Wan Ahmad Wan Omar who has not only failed to ensure free and fair elections in Sarawak but are now trying to justify to its political masters why EC failed to curb the people's will to vote for Pakatan Rakyat in the urban centres.

I challenge the EC to come up with prove that the DAP has put up banners which were racial in nature which incites racial hatred and anger. Throughout the entire campaign, we have ensure that practically all our campaign materials contains at least 2 languages, whether in Bahasa Malaysia, English, Chinese or Iban. Our campaign theme has been thoroughly focused on fighting corruption, cronyism and abuse of power and never on a particular race.

Even if the EC is indeed shorthanded to the extent that they were unable to "take down" all the so-called "racist" banners by DAP, I am certain that its officials have ready cameras to keep proof and maintain records of such serious transgressions. Datuk Wan Ahmad should show such evidence instead of spreading malicious lies.

In fact, if there was any party which was inciting racial sentiments during the election, it was from Barisan Nasional, and SUPP in particular. Nearly all SUPP banners were only in the Chinese language, and they threatened the Chinese community that if the latter failed to support SUPP, the Government will ignore their needs in the future. Why didn't EC reprimand or take action against the SUPP?

In addition, the DAP has never held any "closed door" ceramahs in Sarawak. All our events whether in public places or function rooms, were always open to public, including to the media and special branch officers, who had diligently video-recorded every word uttered by our leaders. Both Datuk Wan Ahmad and Datuk Seri Rais Yatim should publicly apologise for making the baseless accusation that our candidate Violet Yong has uttered "dah cukup masa orang Melanau jadi CM", failing which our legal bureau will contemplate further actions against them.

Barisan Nasional, having lost the confidence of the public, particularly in the urban centres are now using government agencies such as the Election Commission to incite racial hatred against the DAP in order to protect their own selfish political interest. Datuk Wan Ahmad should resign for not only failing to ensure a level playing field for elections in Sarawak, but also now becoming the cat's paw for BN to defame and denigrate Pakatan Rakyat component parties.
