UMNO’s arrogance of power will backfire

Posted: 07 Jun 2013 02:52 AM PDT

hamlet-and-horatio-before-the-grave-diggers-1843(1)

When Hamlet bemoans "the oppressor's wrong…, the law's delay, the insolence of office", it is a classic case of art imitating life. Except that in our present condition, the powers that be are seeing it fit that life should imitate art.

So, as last week's events have shown, in re-arresting Tian Chua, Tamrin Ghafar, and Haris Ibrahim just four days after they were freed by the court, the police plainly displayed 'the insolence of office' and showed utter contempt to the magistrate who had ordered their release.

Prosecuting them as well as other activists and opposition leaders for activities linked to the "Blackout 505" rallies therefore adds to 'the oppressor's wrong' and nails the lie on Najib's 'reform agenda' so proudly proclaimed not just to the nation but the world at large.

The custodial murders of Kugan, Dhamendran and others speak for themselves in the brutality and horror of the crimes and the audacity of those responsible for the initial cover-up, notwithstanding that some of the killers are finally charged.

Deporting Nurul Izzah from Sabah as if she were a common felon and placing Lim Kit Siang, Ambiga and me on the persona non grata list are yet other instances of the shameless abuse of power. That the bar was subsequently lifted is immaterial because the damage had already been done since she could not be there in time to celebrate a major cultural event with the people of Sabah.

They may claim some 'technical right' to arrest prior to charging suspects, power to interrogate, unfettered power for the Attorney General to prosecute whom he so wishes or some legal provision which allows the powers that be to bar citizens from entering Sabah. But when such a right or power is exercised without regard for human dignity, what more for the sanctity of life, it is not rule of law but tyranny and oppression. More profoundly, these acts and many more that have been committed have demonstrated the chilling and insidious consequences of the arrogance of power.

Under what circumstances are we that a mere presumed legal right can be used to justify dumping innocent people in the lockup to spend the night just to make life easy for the police to have them charged before a court of law?

Some will say this is making a mountain out of a mole-hill. But is it? To my mind, this liberty is inalienable and no words suffice to describe its import to the dignity of the person.

King Lear may tell Cordelia: "Come, let’s away to prison; We two alone will sing like birds in the cage" but that's on a mystical level. And at that stage, Lear's already insane. You may get used to the damp wall and the hard bed or even the stale bread but as long as your mind is clear, your spirit will never come to terms with the deprivation of your liberty.

In making the needless arrests, and then using the Sedition Act after having promised the nation it would be repealed, Najib Razak has ridden rough-shod over the urgings of the people – of lawmakers, civil society leaders and other community leaders – and have now in one fell stroke sealed the wall of alienation with the people. He's also proven once again that he is not an honorable man.

That is why the prosecution of P. Uthayakumar for sedition – as well as the others – is significant in showing up the farcical nature of Najib's government. That the reality never matches the rhetoric; that the promises are left on the wayside; and that when unchecked the 'oppressor's wrong' can multiply many fold, eroding the foundation of our fundamental rights and tearing the fabric of our dignity as free citizens in a sovereign nation.

No doubt by refusing to continue with his defence, Uthayakumar had chosen to take the moral high ground for the cause he believes in and this has landed him a jail sentence far in excess of the supposed 'crime'. But it needn't have gone that far had the Attorney General used his prerogative to issue a nolle prosequi, that is, to discontinue the trial.

But all roads to accountability must lead to the man who wants to be Prime Minister. Indeed, "the oppressor's wrong…, the law's delay, the insolence of office", are symptoms of a deep-seated systemic breakdown of the institution of governance.

So, let me remind not just Najib but Mahathir, Daim, the oppressors, and their co-conspirators, the words of Martin Luther King, Jr.: "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere…. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly." Slowly indeed the wheel of karma turns around its axis but those who commit wrongs and injustice will sooner or later be brought to account.

The brazen show of arrogance is matched only by the bias in the handling of real mischief makers, the hate mongers and racist provocateurs. The failure to take action against these criminals speaks one thing and one thing only: that this country has two sets of laws, one favouring UMNO and its cronies and another against law abiding citizens whose only 'crime' is to fight for their rights, for justice and for a legitimate government through free and fair elections.

Make no mistake. This arrogance of power will backfire. It will not succeed in dampening the spirit of the people. They can jail us, deport us, intimidate and even humiliate us, but the courage and the will of the people shall never be defeated. That's because real power resides in the people. As Malcolm X once said, power in defence of freedom and if I might add, of justice and of our dignity, "is greater than power in behalf of tyranny and oppression."

[PRESS STATEMENT] Nurul Izzah Anwar: Malaysia’s Sovereignty Sacrificed for Free Trade?

Posted: 06 Jun 2013 12:26 AM PDT

6 June 2013
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Malaysia’s Sovereignty Sacrificed for Free Trade?

The Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP) is a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) initiative involving 11 countries and is currently in its 17th round of closed-door negotiations. Malaysia joined the TPP discussions in October 2010. Unfortunately, in keeping with past traditions, Malaysians including their elected representatives have not been informed of the discussions pertaining to the TPP.

This unfortunate exclusion from discussions, debates or any other form of participation let alone the entire process of obtaining a Parliamentary ratification denies the public their right to oversight and scrutiny of international treaties and agreements – be they bilateral or multilateral – which could affect national interests and sovereignty.

Although the Government is allowed to enter into international agreements and treaties without having to obtain Parliamentary approval, the scale and size of the TPP supercedes any other treaties in the world. Consistent with President Barack Obama’s goal to make it the ‘trade treaty’ worthy of the 21st century, TPP far exceeds the authority and quality of the multilateral agreements already agreed at World Trade Organization (WTO). This in itself should have been a red flag for further caution.

Invariably, we are extremely worried that the Government will sign the TPP agreement without first seeking public opinion, or being attentive to the concerns and sentiments of the people of Malaysia.

While KEADILAN in principle supports FTAs if all stakeholders are involved in the process, alongside Parliamentary review and ratification, all FTAs nevertheless must be premised on "fair trade" principles without compromising the socio-economic sphere, environment, cultural domain, labour rights, public safety and national security. On that premise, we call for a parliamentary expert study group on TPP – formed of Malaysian experts and specialists drawn from around the world – to be immediately convened to look into the nuts and bolts of the FTA.

We have justifiable reasons to be concerned. This is because by joining this trade agreement:-

- TPP confers greater legal rights on foreign businesses than those available to domestic businesses through a clause called the "investor-state" dispute settlement (ISDS) resolution. In lieu of this, we question the motives of the Government for entertaining the notion of joining an agreement that empowers foreign corporations to challenge domestic laws and regulations outside of domestic courts without first exhausting local legal measures. This is especially frightening as it allows foreign corporations to circumvent laws and regulations enacted by our Government in public interest such as those pertaining to natural resource, environmental protection, and health policies.

- TPP contains provisions concerning infringements of Trade Related Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) ranging from basic pharmaceuticals to digital information online. These provisions would result in the increased costs of medicines purchased by our Government, and for the private consumer of medicines. Further, some provisions would hinder privacy, expression and innovation on the Internet as Internet Service Providers (ISPs) would be required to monitor the everyday activity of internet users, and are given the authority to act upon them by means of disabling net access or throttling bandwidth, effectively hindering freedom of speech.

Accordingly, even if we accept TPP, we demand that the Malaysian Government ensure certain safeguards to be in place:-

1) Strengthen our environmental laws to that of international standards to prevent any abuse of our diverse ecosystem.
2) Emulate the international best practices to strongly oppose ISDS, and incorporate these best practices in the Trade Policy Statements.
3) Enact laws to protect the interest of domestic internet users and maintaining freedom of information as long as it does not breach existing security laws.

A study has been made by the Peterson Institute, stating that Malaysia stands to gain huge income gains through TPP. However, the projection has made no attempts to determine the impact of this trade deal on income inequality or environmental sustainability. Hence, we see TPP, and especially the processes leading to its ultimate acession, to be fraught with various social, political and economic risks, which could undermine the very integrity of the agreement eventually.

I will move a motion within Parliament strongly demanding a Parliamentary Expert Group on TPP be convened, with the added caveat that the legislature should be duly informed. This is to ensure the protection of the democratic rights of the Malaysian Parliament, especially in relation to the issue of review and ratification of all treaties.

Indeed, subsequent legislative amendments must be restored in light of this upcoming new treaty of TPP. Our concerns are not trivial. We will not accept the blind faith assurances that the Malaysian Government would perform its duties when they have failed miserably to protect our national interest and sovereignty in the past; including instances such as the territorial dispute cases of Pulau Batu Putih (with Singapore) and Block L and M (with Brunei), the Water Agreement (with Singapore) and the Singapore Tanjong Pagar KTM land deal (with Singapore).

I will further prioritise engagement with representatives from the Chinese, Malay, Indian and Chamber's of Commerce regarding this matter. We take kindly to the invitation of the US Embassy which stated that they have offered give numerous groups from both business and civil society here in Malaysia the opportunity to be a stakeholder in the negotiations. I fully intend to represent the interests of Malaysians during the upcoming round of negotiations that will be held in Malaysia and will be bringing with me representatives from the respective CCM's to be stakeholders as well.

This TPP may have been in the spirit of 'Free Trade', but is it truly a 'fair trade' deal for the citizens of our country?

‘EC can’t dismiss ballot-paper buying claim’

Posted: 04 Jun 2013 11:50 PM PDT

Malaysiakini

The Election Commission (EC) cannot simply say that it has nothing to do with the police report lodged by its officers, alleging the buying of ballot papers by a BN candidate, said PKR’s Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli.

He told reporters this is because the EC is constitutionally duty-bound to safeguard its reputation and the credibility of the electoral process.

NONE“(EC deputy chairperson) Wan Ahmad (Wan Omar) likes to scold us and then, when a police report is lodged, he goes into quiet mode," Rafizi(centre in photo) told a press conference today.

“This is his responsibility. If a report was made by the EC’s own officers, then it is his constitutional duty to clear the air, explain and to nullify the election (results) if it is true."

He also rubbished a claim by the BN's Hulu Besut representative Nawi Mohamad that he is not involved.

“(Nawi) only said ‘there is no such thing’, as easy as that, which is the standard Umno answer.

“They are saying a police report is not evidence enough and that anyone can lodge one, not realising that there are penalties for false reports."

Rafizi said the fact that the EC officer was willing to put herself forward to be investigated and to give evidence lends credence to her claim.

"But at least Nawi is nicer than Shahrizat," he said, referring to former Umno Wanita chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil who has sued him for allegedly defaming her over the National Feedlot Corporation exposes.

Nawi had told KiniTV he did not buy any postal ballot paper, while Wan Ahmad told Sinar Harian that the claim has nothing to do with the EC.

Yesterday, Rafizi provided media with a copy of a police report lodged by an individual claiming to be an EC officer.

The individual said that her postal ballot paper was "bought" by Nawi for RM100, and when she asked for the paper back, the ballot was already marked for BN.

KL ‘Black 505′: Pakatan wants Dataran Merdeka but …

Posted: 04 Jun 2013 11:49 PM PDT

Malaysiakini

Pakatan Rakyat will write to Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the police today to state their intention to hold the Kuala Lumpur legof the 'Black 505′ rally at Padang Merbok on June 15.

azlanPKR strategy director Rafizi Ramli said, however, the coalition's first choice for the 2pm rally would be the iconic Dataran Merdeka, about a kilometre away.

“Our wish and intention is to hold the rally at Dataran, but we take heed of the constant reminders by the police to avoid Dataran," he told a press conference today.

“In a mutually beneficial move, we take this initiative. But if the police and DBKL do not mind, we would like to assemble at Dataran."

He said Pakatan is choosing Padang Merbok for now to avoid going “back and forth” in negotiations, which could lead to delay.

The Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 requires that authorities be informed 10 days in advance of any gathering, and that written permission is obtained from venue owners.

Padang Merbok is managed by DBKL.

Rafizi reiterated that the rally is to demand the resignation of the Election Commission, as well as reinstatement of an interim panel that is agreed upon by the BN, Pakatan and civil society groups like Bersih to spearhead electoral reform.

NONE“The time when the BN decides on its own is over. We can discuss terms of reference for the appointment of a new EC, but (there will be) no compromise unless all members resign immediately,” he said.

He said the rally will also demand that a re-election be called in 30 parliamentary constituencies, under the watch of the proposed interim EC.

It will further demand that amendments to electoral laws and the intended redelineation exercise is halted until the interim panel is in place.

“We are apprehensive about (Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s) announcement that the EC will be under a parliamentary select committee (PSC), as this is nothing but a delay tactic.

“We have been down this path (before) … the PSC is made of a majority of BN members, and there will be delays, and further delays."

‘PAS leaders, members will be there’

Also at the press conference was PAS deputy secretary-general Syed Azman Syed Nawawi, who refuted claims that the party is not behind the 'Black 505′ rallies nationwide.

He said that the entire PAS top leadership will be present at the KL rally and that the party will mobilise members and supporters to attend as well.

NONEPKR’s Sungai Petani MP Johari Abdul said the event will take on a “festive” mood and will “safe and non-confrontational” just like the many 'Black 505′ rallies held since May 8.

“There have been many young people who come in a respectful and orderly manner, and this is encouraging as it shows that the nation is maturing fast,” he said.

Prior to the Kuala Lumpur event, Black 505 rallies will be held in Perlis on June 10, in Sungai Petani, Kedah, on June 11 and in Batu Pahat, Johor, on June 14.

“We are inviting everyone, whether party members or not and including BN members, to come and listen as this is part of political education,” he added.

Malaysia: Drop Charges Against ‘Blackout 505’

Posted: 04 Jun 2013 11:23 PM PDT

Human Rights Watch

Demonstrators gather to protest against recent election results in Petaling Jaya

The Malaysian authorities should stop prosecuting activists and opposition figures involved in rallies protesting the recent elections, Human Rights Watch said in a letter to Prime Minister Najib Razak.

At least six alleged organizers of the "Blackout 505" rallies have been charged with violating Malaysia's Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 for failing to give police the required 10-day advance notification. On May 22, police also arrested 18 peaceful protesters at a candlelight vigil outside the Jinjang police station in Kuala Lumpur.

"Prosecuting activists for organizing peaceful protests makes a mockery of the prime minister's promises to establish a rights-respecting government in Malaysia," said Phil Robertson, deputy Asia director. "The government should drop the charges against the six activists and publicly pledge to cease bringing cases against organizers of peaceful protests."

The "Blackout 505" rallies in Selangor, Penang, Ipoh, Perak, Negri Sembilan, Johor Bahru, and other parts of Malaysia attracted large numbers protesting the results of, and alleged malfeasance during, the country's May general elections. The well-ordered demonstrations have generally been confined to clearly defined spaces or venues, such as sports stadiums and empty fields.

Statements by prominent public officials called into question the government's commitment to protect the right to peaceful assembly. For example, Minister of Home Affairs Ahmad Zahid Hamidi told the media that people had to stop the post-election gatherings, and "if they still want to continue, then they will have to pay the price." Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Mohmad Salleh said the police refused to tolerate the candlelight vigil, "as it will only cause agitation among the public."

The 10-day notice provision under the Peaceful Assembly Act is contrary to international human rights standards and should be amended along with other problematic parts of the law to protect public assembly and free expression. The United Nations special rapporteur on freedom of assembly and of association, Maina Kai, reported to the UN Human Rights Council in April 2013 that "peaceful protests should not be viewed as a threat" by governments. He flagged lengthy notification periods and recommended a maximum notice requirement of 48 hours.

Human Rights Watch called on the Malaysian authorities to drop the charges against the "Blackout 505" protest organizers, and to end harassment and police investigations of other organizers. The Malaysian government should amend the Peaceful Assembly Act and other laws that infringe on the rights to peaceful assembly and freedom of association.

"Prime Minister Najib should understand that addressing the issues surrounding the May elections means listening to his opponents – not prosecuting them for asserting the right to have their voices heard," Robertson said.

Patung yang dipakaikan pakaian dalam mungkin diharamkan

Posted: 05 Jun 2013 02:09 AM PDT

- AP

BN Man Bought Ballots for RM100 Each

Posted: 04 Jun 2013 02:30 AM PDT

PETALING JAYA: A police report has been made against a BN assemblyman for allegedly bribing 25 election officers in return for their postal votes, which he purportedly used to mark for himself.

This report was lodged by an election officer last Wednesday, PKR strategy director Rafizi Ramli claimed today, citing this as further proof the May 5 general election was riddled with fraud.

"On April 29, 2013 at around 5.30pm, 24 other election officers who were to be on duty on election day and I were summoned by YB Nawi bin Mohamed, the Hulu Besut candidate…" a copy of the police report reads.

"We were ordered by YB Nawi to submit our unmarked postal votes [to] Hjh Azizah Ibrahim…and afterwards we were paid RM100 each."

According to the report, the election officer and three others asked for their ballot papers the following day, out of guilt over what she felt was a violation of the Elections Act.

"Once our ballot papers were returned to us, I found that the ballot papers had been marked, without our consent or knowledge," she wrote in the report.

She added that when she cast her ballot, the officers did not mark her finger with indelible ink.

"I'm extremely unsatisfied as my ballot paper was marked without our consent," she said in the report.
The name of the complainant was, however, blacked out in the copy of the police report provided to the media.

Rafizi, who heads the party's #SiasatPRU13 investigation team, said today it was unlikely this incident of postal vote bribing was an isolated case.

"With the postal votes and early votes numbering to over 500,000 across the country, the figure is significant enough to have influenced the results of the general election," said Rafizi at the PKR headquarters here today.

"This is why we are firm in believing the general election was not valid and that the results were marred by fraud, and this is why we will continue with the June 15 rally."

He added that Pakatan intended to provide the 10 days' notice of the rally, tomorrow, in accordance with the Peaceful Assembly Act 2010.

He said he would also begin filing the election petition on June 10.

Lebih 50,000 Undi ‘Hilang’ di Seluruh Negara, Pengundi Lapor Polis

Posted: 04 Jun 2013 02:00 AM PDT

PKR stands by phantom voters claims, blames EC for xenophobia

Posted: 04 Jun 2013 02:20 AM PDT

The Malaysian Insider

PKR has stood by its allegations that foreign nationals of Bangladesh origin had voted illegally in Election 2013 despite the denial made by the country's High Commissioner here yesterday, insisting that it has proof to back its claims.

The Pakatan Rakyat (PR) party added that the Election Commission (EC) should also take full responsibility for the hostilities shown towards Bangladeshi migrant workers since its failure to deal with complaints of phantom voters had strengthened accusations that the government had won the May 5 polls through fraud.

"We accept their statement, that is their right but you have to ask this question: if majority of our people have been talking about it for a long time, I don't think your normal Malaysians would go and create news out of nothing and more importantly the integrity of an election is sacred and so important to our country.

"The way I look at it is that if there are any allegations about phantom voters whether they are Bangladeshis, Indonesians, Filipinos… what is more important is the authorities and the parties responsible for it which is the EC must take it seriously and investigate fully.

"But they have refused to probe so it strengthens the perception that there are phantom voters from overseas," PKR strategic director told a press conference at the party's headquarters here.

Yesterday, the government of Bangladesh denied allegations that its Malaysian-based workers had acted as phantom voters in Election 2013, adding that the "xenophobic" accusation has subjected its citizens to abuse.

The country's High Commissioner to Malaysia Atiqur Rahman also laughed off claims that 40,000 of Bangladeshi citizens had been transported into Malaysia to vote for the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) a week before the May 5 polls.

He further described the allegations as "propaganda" and "political manipulation" that might put innocent Bangladeshis under increased threat and, at the same time, impose a negative image of its country unfairly.

PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar said although the party conceded it was wrong to target Bangladeshi migrant workers, the EC could have done its part to prevent the xenophobic reaction towards foreign nationals if it had acted on the complaints.

"Of course, the attacks and hostilities should not be brought against the foreigner, the EC should have prevented this. We are not asking the public to hate and so on but we must not let this incident to become something that we easily forget.

"You have to push and demand that EC and relevant conduct investigations most professionally," she told the same press conference.

PR leaders have accused the ruling coalition of rigging the Election 2013 results through fraudulent practices that included transporting foreign nationals into key states in Malaysia to vote for Barisan Nasional (BN).

BN leaders, however, described the allegation as baseless and said the opposition has yet to show any concrete evidence to support its claims.

Despite a resurgent opposition, BN clung on to power by winning 133 seats against PR's 88, although this was seven fewer than what it garnered in 2008. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's coalition also lost the popular vote for the first time since 1969.

PR and electoral reform group Bersih are now planning to file election petitions to challenge some results from the May 5 polls, claiming to have strong evidence of fraud in what had been Malaysia's closest election to date.

Among the evidence compiled are videos that purportedly showed foreign nationals being flown in a day before the election.

Najib had recently announced that his government would see through its plans to reform the electoral system by placing the Election Commission (EC) under a special parliamentary committee.

PR leaders, however, claimed the move was more of a public relations exercise and called for the resignation of the commission's leadership as the first condition towards genuine polls reform.

Bersih will back KL ‘Black 505′ if it urges EC to resign

Posted: 04 Jun 2013 02:15 AM PDT

Malaysiakini

Bersih co-chairperson S Ambiga said that the electoral reform pressure group will support the 'Black 505' rally held by Pakatan Rakyat in Kuala Lumpur should it aim to urge the Election Commission (EC) to resign.

Ambiga said that Bersih has yet to get know the aims of the rally, which will be held on June 15.

"We don't know, we believe one of the aims as they said earlier is to ask the EC to resign. If that's the case, we will support such a move because we think the EC should resign," she told the press after Bersih failed to meet Immigration Department director-general Alias Ahmad this morning.

Ambiga also stressed that Bersih maintains its stand that everyone has the constitutional right to hold a rally.

PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim announced yesterday that Pakatan will hold this rally in Kuala Lumpur on June 15 to protest alleged electoral fraud in the 13th general election that was held on May 5.

Asked if the rally would be held in a stadium or whether it would be a street demonstration, he said the rally secretariat would furnish details in due course.

This is to continue a series of protests around the country against alleged electoral fraud dubbed 'Black 505′, which began in Kelana Jaya, Selangor, on May 8.

Bersih previously had held two massive rallies in downtown Kuala Lumpur to urge electoral reform prior to the 13th general election.

‘Ballot papers of EC officers sold to BN for RM100 each’

Posted: 04 Jun 2013 02:13 AM PDT

Malaysiakini

A BN state seat candidate has been accused of “buying” ballot papers from Election Commission (EC) officers in order to vote on behalf of them to ensure victory for BN.

In exposing this today, PKR strategy director Rafizi Ramli said one of the officers had on May 4, just a day before the 13th general election, lodged a police report on this.

Copies of the police report were given to members of the media by Rafizi during a press conference at PKR headquarters at Tropicana in Petaling Jaya this afternoon.

The report details how the EC officers were called up by the BN candidate before they passed their ballot papers to BN coalition workers.

According to Rafizi, four of the EC officers demanded back their ballot papers a day after they were sold to the BN candidate for RM100 each.

“However, when they got back their ballot papers, they found that their ballots had already been been marked,” Rafizi said

The police report names the BN candidate. Malaysiakini is withholding his name until he responds to our queries.

"SPR perlu letak jawatan, tidak kompeten, jangan cuba menipu lagi seperti kes selepas Bersih, buat PSC, kemudian menipu kami lagi," tegasnya.

Sejak pengumuman keputusan Pilihan Raya 2013, PR telah menganjurkan beberapa diri Himpunan "Blackout 505" di seluruh negara menolak keputusan pilihan raya.

Penganjurnya, Datuk Johari Abdul turut berkata himpunan berkenaan akan terus dijalankan walaupun Yang Di-Pertuan Agong telah menitahkan agar setiap rakyat menerima keputusan pilihan raya.

Lebih 80 Petisyen PRU 13, Pimpinan SPR Didesak Letak Jawatan

Posted: 03 Jun 2013 01:45 AM PDT

Pakatan to Form Special Committee on IPCMC

Posted: 03 Jun 2013 01:30 AM PDT

PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Rakyat will set up a special committee to push for the establishment of the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC) once Parliament convenes on June 24, DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang announced today.

The Gelang Patah MP said this in the wake of three deaths in custody in the past 11 days.

Describing it as an "outrageous" record, Lim said this proved that the Enforcement Agencies Integrity Commission (EAIC) had failed to resolve the issue.

"We will set up a committee comprising two members of parliament from each party in Pakatan, and they will be responsible for coming up with the bill to establish the IPCMC.

"But we need enough members of parliament to support this. We have 89 MPs from Pakatan, and we need another 23 to obtain a simple majority so that we can set up the IPCMC," he told a press conference here.
He appealed to BN parliamentarians to stop thinking along party lines and throw their weight behind the bill, pointing out that it was for the common good of the people.

"MIC have said four of their MPS want to see the IPCMC set up, while in MCA, vice-president Gan Ping Sieu said he supported it," Lim said.

"So we hope they can prepare a statement of their support within the next two or three weeks. We hope that the MPs do not want deaths in custody to continue happening," he added.

Lim vowed that Pakatan would ensure the IPCMC would become its main agenda once parliament convenes next month.

Eight people have died in police custody in this year alone. The latest was P Karuna Nithi, 43, who was found unconscious by policemen on duty at around 6.30pm on Saturday in the Tampin police station lock-up.

Ironically, Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had just one day before Karuna Nithi's death assured that investigations on custodial deaths would be conducted simultaneously by the Bukit Aman police special committee and the EAIC.

Zahid also assured investigations would be conducted without fear or favour against police personnel who abused their power.

"We would not side the perpetrators," he said in the wake of criticisms against the special committee on custodial deaths.

Last Tuesday, Bukit Aman announced the formation of a special committee led by Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar to curb deaths in police lock ups.

The committee that is expected to start functioning soon would among others, monitor the safety aspects and health condition of those detained in lock ups.

Central lock ups in five locations have already been equipped with CCTV cameras, intercom, lawyers room, court room, identification parade room for suspects and a pantry.

Explain blacklist, Sabah PKR rep tells state BN

Posted: 03 Jun 2013 03:15 AM PDT

The Malaysian Insider

Sabah PKR MP Darell Leiking today demanded the state spell out how long it is barring entry to opposition leaders, saying the information was crucial to help plan future programmes.

Specifically referring to the deportation of Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar last Thursday, Leiking questioned if Sabah Deputy Speaker Datuk Johnny Mositun had been accurate when he claimed the ban had just been for a day.

"Can I ask Datuk Johnny Mositun on what is that 'threat to the state security' that Nurul Izzah poses to Sabah and can he confirm that she is banned only for that day only?

"His verification will be of great help for us to find out and to get bottom of the facts as there are many speculations as to why Nurul was denied entry and deported from Sabah," the Penampang MP said in a statement here.

"Also, a verification from the deputy Speaker of the State assembly on whether the 'ban' is only for one day is also a crucial information as that would assist Nurul on her future programmes in Sabah," he added.

Leiking was referring to Mositun's remarks in the Daily Express today where the latter was quoted saying that Nurul Izzah had been barred from entering Sabah last week for just a day and because she was deemed a threat to state security.

From the statement, Leiking said it was reasonable to assume that Mositun was privy and aware of the actual reason behind Nurul Izzah's deportation.

The deputy PKR secretary-general, however, also asked for confirmation from Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Musa Aman on whether the ban had been a pre-planned decision by the state Cabinet.

Earlier today, The Malaysian Insider reported the contents of a leaked letter from Musa's office to the state's Immigration Department confirming that apart from Nurul Izzah, her father Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Lim Kit Siang, Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan and Rafizi Ramli are also on a blacklist barring them from entering the east Malaysian state.

The May 21 letter, which sports the letterhead from Musa's office, also says the list was given the Sabah Cabinet's stamp of approval following its first meeting last month on May 15 – 10 days after the 13th general election.

"The Cabinet has agreed that the chief minister invoke his absolute powers under the Immigration Act, and in accordance with certification from the Sabah Royal Malaysian Police Special Branch chief, not to land these individuals to Sabah," the letter said, before it listed out the names of the five politicians and Bersih 2.0 co-chairman.

According to Sabah DAP chief Jimmy Wong, a reliable source from the Immigration Department had leaked a copy of the first page of the document to him.

The document was emailed to The Malaysian Insider this morning. From the single page, the duration of the blacklist or its reason, was not stated.

When contacted, Lim described the ban "ridiculous", pointing out that the government was making a mockery of democracy by not only banning its own citizens from entering a state in the country, but legally elected representatives.

"Of course this is not my first time… I am probably the most banned leader… I've been banned from Sabah, from Sarawak… but I thought we have passed those days.

"It looks like we are still in the thick of it," he complained.

Last Thursday, Nurul Izzah was barred from entering Sabah upon arriving in Kota Kinabalu to celebrate Pesta Kaamatan, or the Harvest Festival, in her personal capacity.

Explaining the ban on Saturday, Musa was reported saying that those who pose a threat to the Sabah ideals of peace harmony will not be welcomed to the state.

He added that state never restricted other opposition leaders before the polls, but believed Nurul Izzah had different intentions this time.

"Now that the elections are over, their leader refuses to accept the verdict. It is a case of sour grapes and ungentlemanly conduct. He wants to rile up the masses to rally throughout the country to show his, and I repeat, his discontent," he said.

"We have reason to believe that Nurul Izzah's intentions to come to Sabah, this time around, may not be as innocent as she or her fellow opposition members make it out to be," he added.

The Baling spirit lives on

Posted: 03 Jun 2013 03:12 AM PDT

Malaysiakini

Thirty-nine years ago, a little-known incident in Baling caused a seismic shift in Malaysian politics, but very few Malaysians are aware of the incident or realise its significance and the impact it created.

If the full details of this incident had been divulged in 1974, the government might have fallen. The Baling incident caused a nightmare for Abdul Razak Hussein, the prime minister at the time.

Today, the nightmare is recurring for Najib Abdul Razak, the leader of the current minority government. Najib feels he has no alternative but to instigate several crackdowns on the rakyat.

The Baling event referred to is not the historic meeting in 1955 of Tunku Abdul Rahman, who was the head of the Malayan government and Chin Peng, the leader of the Communist Party of Malaya (CPM).

Nor was it the Memali Incident of 1985, the shameful massacre of a defenceless community by forces loyal to Dr Mahathir Mohamad's government.

The Baling Incident (BI) which occurred in 1974 was shrouded in secrecy. It was a series of many small expressions of the bottled-up feelings of anger, betrayal, fear and resentment, of the rural poor.

In present-day Malaysia, the rakyat participated in democracy marches and rallies against oppression, injustice and the dictatorial rule of Najib and the BN government. In 1974, it was Abdul Razak, Najib's father, who faced similar marches against social injustices.

The root cause of the BI was abject poverty and starvation. The rubber smallholders faced ruin when the global price of rubber plummeted. The farmers could not cope with the rising cost of living and rural families had to forage for food in the jungles.

NONEBizarrely, in 1974 Abdul Razak (right) announced in Parliament that the civil servants' allowance would be increased by 50 percent, from RM1,000 to RM1,500.

When news broke of the deaths of a few children from eating ubi gadong, a type of poisonous wild yam, to stave off hunger pangs, the social unrest reached a tipping point. At its peak, around 25,000 of the rural poor took to the streets.

Like father, like son; both Abdul Razak and Najib unleashed the might of the FRU and the police on peaceful protesters. Najib is a politician without imagination, but he knew that brutal action had served his father well.

A dark chapter in our history

In 2013 Najib merely employed his father's tried and tested methods of retaliation. The consequences of 1974 opened a dark chapter in our history.

Then, like now, information was heavily censored. Abdul Razak did not want the rakyat to know that an uprising had occurred in Kedah.

Five years earlier, the country had been overwhelmed by the May 13 clashes. The Chinese were convenient scapegoats.

Abdul Razak was in a quandary. The district of Baling was mainly populated by Malays. The significance of the BI had to be suppressed.

In the BI there was no Chinese element, or communist subversives at work. BI was social unrest – a revolt by Malay smallholders and farmers. Peaceful hunger marches throughout Baling spread outwards from Baling town, Kulim and Sik.

News travelled fast and despite media censorship in 1974, students at Universiti Malaya, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and Kolej Mara, as well as the universities' teaching fraternity expressed their support for the uprising. They organised a series of meetings and urged the government to address the plight of the poor.

NONESyed Husin Ali (right), then an associate professor at Universiti Malaya, said: "At first they (the students) demonstrated within their campus. The police fired tear gas but some cannisters landed on the nearby squatter settlement, injuring some children.

"The students joined forces and gathered in the centre of KL. When the police acted against them, they took refuge in the National Mosque. Over 1,000 students were arrested and detained for a few days.

"Some squatters joined some students to 'run riot' at the highway, putting up blockades and smashing traffic lights."

Abdul Razak warned of tough reprisals and over 40 students and lecturers were detained under the ISA. Among them was Anwar Ibrahim, who was detained for two years.

Syed Husin said: "I was detained for six years. I was an associate professor and considered recalcitrant for refusing to admit guilt.

"I was accused of being pro-communist and the brain behind the demos. They wanted me to serve as an example to create fear among those academic staff to prevent them from following my path.

"I think these are the reasons why I was incarcerated up to six years."

universiti student auku uuca parliament protest 180808The education minister then was Mahathir. He and Ungku Aziz, the vice-chancellor of UM at the time, produced the Universities and University Colleges Act (UUCA).

The UUCA has effectively curbed students' freedom and deprived universities of their autonomy. Students and lecturers are fearful of speaking out on issues which are deemed sensitive to BN. Our universities have never recovered from Mahathir's despicable legacy.

Abdul Razak, his peers and successors' children were sent abroad for their education, whilst the rest of the rakyat received a stifling Malaysian schooling.

Baling not an isolated incident

In 2013, history repeated itself and the nightmare which descended on Najib's father is now his own.

Today, Najib has warned that he would get tough with students Adam Adli Abdul Halim and Safwan Anang as well as other dissenters. The ISA has been repealed, so what has Najib up his sleeve?

Let this column warn both Najib and Mahathir, the joint rulers of Malaysia that their efforts to subjugate the rakyat will not succeed. Baling was not an isolated incident.

Prior to BI, there were unreported acts of unrest against the BN government. In Tasik Utara, Johor Baru, poor urban Malays camped in front the residence of then MB Osman Saat to voice their disgust at being cheated of housing and land.

In 1974 and in 2013, the Malays opposed the government, but Najib has created a red herring and claimed that in GE13, it was a Chinese tsunami.

It is not! It is Malaysians fighting tyranny.

The wounds which Abdul Razak, Mahathir and Najib opened are still festering. Our awareness of their crimes and of their despotic rule are more acute.

Their policies have cast long shadows and there will be more Baling incidents until Najib and the illegitimate BN government step down.

Anwar: Perubahan didorong anak muda, tangkas padam api perkauman

Posted: 03 Jun 2013 03:09 AM PDT

Keadilan Daily

CCTV Bukan Jalan Penyelesaian Atasi Kematian Tahanan Polis

Posted: 02 Jun 2013 06:34 PM PDT

PKR cadang suruhanjaya bebas kendali urusan persempadanan

Posted: 02 Jun 2013 01:46 AM PDT

Sinar Harian

[KENYATAAN MEDIA] Penahanan Anti-Demokratik Atas Arahan Ketua Menteri Sabah Diselar

Posted: 31 May 2013 03:26 AM PDT

31 MEI 2013

Angry at an unjust defeat, Malaysia's opposition has reasons to be hopeful

IN JAIL, Anwar Ibrahim read a lot of Shakespeare. To understand Malaysian politics, the opposition leader says, you have to know Macbeth, a tragedy of overweening political ambition. For the government, the ambition defacing the country's politics is that of Mr Anwar himself, to become Malaysia's prime minister. He had promised to retire if he lost the general election held on May 5th. "But we won," he says.

That is not how the government sees it. Though the opposition coalition which Mr Anwar leads, Pakatan Rakyat, got 51% of the votes, it won only 40% of the seats in parliament. Years of gerrymandering favour the Barisan Nasional coalition that has ruled Malaysia since independence in 1957. Mr Anwar also alleges outright electoral fraud. He has been leading protest rallies around the country against the "theft" of the election.

In his Sisyphean struggle to reach the peak of Malaysian politics, he has come close before. In the 1990s he was deputy prime minister and prospective leader of the government he was to turn against. For a moment in 1998 it seemed as if a people-power movement might sweep him to office. Instead, he spent six years in jail on charges of sodomy (later overturned). After the previous election, in 2008, he again seemed on the brink, claiming enough members of parliament were ready to defect from the government to give Pakatan a majority. It came to naught.

So, most likely, will his current campaign. Pakatan is to file petitions challenging the result in as many as 31 of the 222 constituencies. But this drawn-out process is not likely to overturn the result, and neither is a lawsuit against the election commission—for allegedly defrauding the nation by marking voters' fingers with "indelible" ink that soon rubbed off. The rallies' purpose, admits a leader of Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS), one of Pakatan's three components, is "to keep the torch alight". That is helped by anger at the arrest of three opposition leaders and a student activist under a sedition law the government had promised to repeal, and by raids on opposition newspapers.

No opposition leader wants the torch to light a conflagration on the streets in the hope of toppling the government in a Malaysian spring. Yet Mr Anwar argues that the rallies must continue nonetheless: "If we don't force them to change now," he says of the ruling coalition, "they will never change."

For all that, it seems likely that the protests will eventually peter out and that Pakatan will have to knuckle down to another stint in opposition. Whether the next election will be fairer is another matter. Two of the biggest injustices are unlikely to go. The media, except online, are slavishly pro-government. Constituency boundaries are to be redrawn this year. But the opposition trusts neither the election commission, which will propose changes, nor the government, which will approve them.

Pakatan suffers friction among its disparate members—the Islamic, ethnic-Malay PAS, Mr Anwar's multiracial Keadilan and the Democratic Action Party (DAP), whose support comes mainly from the ethnic-Chinese minority, about a quarter of the population. Barisan, a coalition dominated by the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), may try to split Pakatan, by tempting the DAP or PAS, or both, into the government.

Mr Anwar says that, since the election, Barisan has already been trying to woo him. It has also emerged that, before an election he expected to win, he signed a secret agreement with his nemesis, the UMNO leader and prime minister, Najib Razak. Under the deal, brokered by Jusuf Kalla, a former vice-president of Indonesia and an old friend of both men, they promised that they would eschew personal mudslinging during the campaign, that the loser would accept the outcome, and that the winner would govern in a spirit of "national reconciliation". Mr Anwar excised another clause promising a government of national unity. He says that he feared UMNO would not willingly give up power. Mr Anwar says the agreement was invalidated by government cheating at the polls. As it happens, Mr Najib never physically signed the deal, saying he needed to consult his coalition. But he did at least mention "national reconciliation" in his victory speech.

Reconciliation seems distant. And Mr Najib's problems may be even bigger than the opposition's. Unusually for a victorious incumbent, he argues for a change in "our attitude, strategy, programmes and approach". A radical idea has been floated: turning the Barisan coalition, whose Chinese and Indian bits took a hammering at the election, into a proper, multi-ethnic party. And to show that he means to deal with corruption—the biggest reason for Barisan's waning popularity—Mr Najib has appointed to his cabinet Paul Low, a former head of the Malaysian arm of Transparency International, an anti-corruption watchdog. Mr Low says his job requires "changing the system". The system will resist.

Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow

Mr Najib has his job by dint of his leadership of UMNO. He comes up for re-election at a party congress later this year. His predecessor as prime minister and party leader was ousted by colleagues. By contrast, Mr Najib, more popular than his party, may survive. "I think the party will support him because of a lack of an alternative," is the ringing endorsement from Mahathir Mohamad, who once dominated Malaysian politics. But UMNO hardliners may make reform difficult. Having lost the Chinese vote, for example, they may oppose further erosion of affirmative-action policies favouring ethnic Malays.

The opposition, meanwhile, is confident. Barisan is also losing the votes of growing numbers of city-dwellers and of the young. Pakatan has the momentum. Mr Anwar, however, is 65. With no obvious successor, he seems in a hurry. Lim Guan Eng, the DAP's leader, is upbeat about the opposition's hopes: "The future is not theirs; it's ours." But it is not necessarily Mr Anwar's.

KDN Jangan Peralat Polis

Posted: 30 May 2013 10:44 AM PDT

~ SelangorKu

[PRESS STATEMENT] MP PENAMPANG CONDEMNS NURUL IZZAH DEPORTATION FROM SABAH

Posted: 30 May 2013 09:43 AM PDT

MP Nurul Izzah Anwar was on her way to celebrate Kaamatan with her fellow Malaysians when she was held back by  Sabah Immigration allegedly under Sabah Chief Minister Department’s instruction before being forcibly deported back to Semenanjung Malaysia.

I condemn this act, more so because Izzah was visiting Sabah to  celebrate Pesta Kaamatan in her personal capacity. It makes it all political with no purpose and hurt our state’s reputation as hosts.

Nurul Izzah arrived at Kota Kinabalu Airport around 645pm via Air Asia on 30th May 2013 and was to return back on the evening of 31st May 2013 to Semenanjung Malaysia.

Immigration Department Sabah informed YB Nurul Izzah that the Chief Minister’s department had decided to bar her and many more personalities from Peninsula Malaysia from entering Sabah henceforth.

The right of entry is Sabah Government’s constitutional right but it should not be abused, more so since there are evidence (as revealed in the ongoing Royal Commission of Inquiry) that illegal  immigrants have entered and not confronted by the same level of scrutiny as the re-elected parliamentarian of Lembah Pantai and my party’s (KeADILan) vice-president.

Why is it that Malaysians joining a festive celebration with fellow Malaysians especially the Kadazans from Sabah and in Sabah now a reason for denial of entry? I personally met at the airport while waiting for YB Nurul Izzah the many Malaysians from West Malaysia (who took the same flight with YB Izzah) who had told me that they came to Sabah to join in the Kaamatan festivity at KDCA, Penampang. They were equally concerned that YB Izzah was detained by Sabah Immigration and this has indeed shamed us in Sabah.

Nurul Izzah is an elected MP, a mother of two, a loving wife and poses no threat at all to the security of my state. The Sabah Immigration Department and those instructing it to carry this order should be ashamed of themselves. I challenge the Chief Minister and the State Cabinet to explain to the people of Sabah and Malaysia as a whole why this act had happened.

Did Anwar’s Tweet Change the Course of History?

At the current age of 87, former premier Mahathir is running out of time. He needs to position his son, Mukhriz Mahathir, at least as UMNO deputy president before he kicks the bucket. He deliberately lobbied two of his "budak suruhan" (boy-servants), Ibrahim Ali and Zulkifli Nordin, to be fielded as candidates in the 13th General Election, knowing well in advance that they would be roasted like Kenny Rogers Roasters. Both candidates who made headlines due to their racism can only survive in rural UMNO stronghold, not urban Shah Alam nor PAS's area Pasir Mas. And why would Mahathir send both to the slaughterhouse?

Mahathir believed BN would win hands down. Opposition would need the help of all the Gods combined in the universe to win the just concluded 13th general election. Based on the strong assumption that more Malays, Indians and Chinese would vote for BN as compared to 2008 tsunami, the hope of regaining two-thirds majority was very real. Hence Mahathir's dilemma – if Najib could regain the lost two-thirds majority, the latter would be invincible and this will definitely strengthen the then caretaker prime minister's grip on the throne. He needs to somehow weaken Najib by sending the much tainted Ibrahim Ali and Zulkifli Nordin. Najib can win but cannot do so with a landslide victory.

Meanwhile, Najib thought he would do better than his predecessor sleepy head Abdullah Badawi. Even if he couldn't regain two-thirds majority, he should have no problem getting more than 140 parliamentary seats achieved by Badawi. He was ill-advised by his team of advisors – that he couldn't possibly do any worse than Badawi considering the free flow of money, food, beers, sexy ladies, lucky draws and whatnot to the Chinese voters especially in Penang. For the first time in their lifetime, the Chinese were treated like a King and Penang island was transformed into heaven.

Najib also put on Chinese costume and played drum like a clown during Chinese New Year to amuse the Chinese. He believed he was freaking popular with the Chinese and he particularly proud of his "Ah Jib Gor" Chinese name. He promised new Chinese schools wherever he went. Underground betting was also doing brisk business with RM100 win for RM1 bet in favour of Lim Guan Eng's defeat. According to rumour mill, the stake was so high that you can sell your vote for as much as RM6,000 a piece in Penang. Then came the mega crowd to almost every single opposition's ceramah.

But these opposition ceramahs attracted mainly the Chinese especially towards the end of the campaign period. With every new ceramah, the Chinese participants increased greatly. While Najib rubbished such pattern as a new threat, Mahathir was quite worried about the Chinese swing. That was why he put on "TSI" (Turbocharged Stratified Injection) mode and screamed every day till foam at mouth about Malay losing power. If Mahathir did nothing, the rural Malays could have given landslide victory to opposition. Najib would be biting his index finger in disbelief till today. Still, Mahathir miscalculated the quantum of the Chinese swing.

The swing of Chinese votes easily breached 90% in most of the constituencies, something which is as rare as finding dinosaur fossils in Malaysia. So whileMahathir lied about not expecting Najib to do worse than Abdullah Badawi, he was honest about didn't expect the Chinese to dump BN in such a scale. That was why he was emotional and upset about the Chinese, so much so that he didn't hold back in accusing the Chinese "rejected the hand of friendship" extended by (UMNO) Malays, never mind it was not true in the first place. He was seen openly and deliberately provoking Malays against the Chinese. Obviously it would be to BN's advantage if Malays start to distrust the Chinese.

13 General Election - Chinese tsunami Myth

Najib needs to survive his next test – UMNO election – hence his parroting about ungrateful Chinese was expected. Actually, Najib is still in a daze, not knowing the root cause of the Chinese' rejection despite all the goodies and entertainment given to them (*grin*). You don't need to be a genius to predict that Chinese will once again become UMNO's punching bag in its coming general assembly. In fact, Mahathir thought it would be a waste of time to recapture Chinese votes by way of sweet-talk them. If the only way to divide the Malays and Chinese is to play racist card again, so be it. The Chinese needs to be intimidated in order for them to go back in droves to BN's arm like herd of sheep.

Anwar Ibrahim realizes that Mahathir's latest extreme racial game will have a huge impact on his coalition and he needs to diffuse it fast. If the Chinese do not get the backing from their Malay comrades, they would be too scare to throw their support for PR again in the future. Pakatan Rakyat would be history come next 14th general election. That was why Anwar called for a mega rally, the first after election, to rubbish the "Chinese Tsunami" scare tactictrumpeted by both Mahathir and Najib. Some speculated the reason why police flip-flop about permit requirement for yesterday's rally, held in Kelana Jaya stadium, was to embarrass Anwar Ibrahim as the spooked Chinese and partners, DAP and PAS, would most probably not present.

Kelana Jaya Stadium Rally 8-May-2013 - 1Kelana Jaya Stadium Rally 8-May-2013 - 2

However, despite last minute notice, the stadium was packed to the brim.Social media research group Politweet.org estimated the crowd size in and around the stadium at between 64,000 and 69,000, given that the stadium capacity is about 25,000. Some claimed there were easily 100,000 people who answered the call last night, with thousands more stuck in traffic and couldn't make it to the stadium. If Anwar and Najib administration's objective was to test the waters as to the relevance of Pakatan Rakyat post 13th general election, the people particularly the young chaps have overwhelmingly given their endorsement to the leadership of Anwar to continue the struggle, judging from Wednesday's mind-boggling success.

Kelana Jaya Stadium Rally 8-May-2013 - 3Kelana Jaya Stadium Rally 8-May-2013 - 4

Psychologically, Anwar Ibrahim knew Najib administration would be very careful not to add fuel into the already furious opposition supporters. It would be suicidal to deploy police or FRU and start arresting the public, or to spray them with water cannon, and in the process agitates the situation. It's always better to let these frustrated people scream till their lungs burst in the stadium. They need to release their steam. Anwar was actually praying for a police crackdown, the more brutal the better, because then he can easily put the blame on Najib's administration and attracts more sympathizers. Too bad Najib didn't give Anwar the bullet.

Kelana Jaya Stadium RallyKelana Jaya Stadium Rally 8-May-2013 - Anwar Speaks

Anwar can now replicate the same rally to other towns throughout the country in order to push the momentum going. Armed with 51.4% of popular votes against BN's 48.6%, Anwar is set to spread the message of PR's victory being stolen. Anwar knows that the "flames of desire" amongst the youngsters is his only hope if he still wish to become the country's 7th prime minister. If there's one person who knows how to rally people by taking advantage of their sentiments, that person has to be Anwar Ibrahim. Pakatan Rakyat can also take comfort from White House's congratulatory announcement that comes with a note about irregularities.

13 General Election - Whitehouse Concern NotesKelana Jaya Stadium RallyKelana Jaya Stadium Rally

As much as Mahathir hates to admit it, this war is far from over. Unless PAS or DAP defects from the current coalition, the future doesn't look good for BN, if they still intends to recapture Selangor or Penang state. Just like the excessive parties thrown in by BN during the campaign, playing too much racism toys could backfire badly. Mahathir made his biggest mistake by picking Anwar Ibrahim from Abim movement (Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia) to be nurtured as future prime minister. Will he make another fatal mistake by playing racial card only to unite all the multiracial technology-aware voters instead?

Kelana Jaya Stadium Rally 8-May-2013 - 7

Do you know why Anwar tweeted that his coalition PR has won the election just after two hours into the counting process? On its own, PR couldn't posibly win the election. At best, it could force BN into chaos with a single digit majority win. What gave Anwar the confidence of tweeting such message was his pact with Sarawak and Sabah greedy politicians in the BN coalition. Anwar had been having tons of meetings with these politicians especially the corrupted Sarawak Chief Minister. With double digits frogs ready to jump, depending on the "rewards", Anwar was damn sure he would be the country's 7th prime minister.

13 General Election - Anwar Tweet PR has Won

Again, Anwar couldn't keep his cool and his early tweet raised red flags. BN's war room's director Mahathir was notified of this troubling tweet message and the old fox decided to triple BN's insurance coverage. Massive frauds or not, BN just couldn't take lightly of Anwar's tweet hence the extraordinary delay in releasing the results. That was why you saw only the BN's parliamentary scoreboards kept churning new score while the opposition PR's own scorecard practically didn't move at all. In certain seats, requests for recount was ignored totally. The priority was to ensure Election Commission announce officially that BN has win the election with comfortable majority seats. Thereafter PR can have the remaining leftovers (*hats off to genius BN*).

Nevertheless, Mahathir was right when he questioned Najib's strategists, whose ideas may have contributed to BN's poor performance. If only Najib has strategists such as DAP's Liew Chin Tong – one of the brilliant architects who proposed and justified that the war should be brought to BN's stronghold, Johor. But considering how Najib was obsessed with becoming popular as if he was running for the President of the United Malaysia, it wasn't hard to guess what type of strategists that fit his bill. Najib's advertising and marketing method was "overkill" to the extent people got sick and tired with its propaganda.

13 General Election - Parliamentary Seats Performance 2008 vs 201313 General Election - State Seats Performance 2008 vs 2013

Najib and Mahathir should realize that by cursing and victimizing the Chinese is not a long-term solution, unless of course they've given up on their future votes in totality. Still, what do they plan to do next? Close all the Chinese schools, force all of them into unemployment and stop providing them electricity, gas and water as punishment for being naughty? And in return the Chinese stop paying taxes? Gimme a break. It's better to hedge on more funds – Malays, Chinese and others – rather than to burn the bridge with the Chinese and rely on one less fund in its next general election.

Najib administration has to remember that urban Malays were also in the same boat as the Chinese in rejecting his coalition. It's time for BN to really ponder on its next course of direction. Will there be more Bersih 4.0 till version 8.0 rallies, assuming it would be an annual event? Surely Ambiga knows Election Commission would not give a hood even if they organize rallies on weekly basis. Perhaps overwhelming internationally political pressure could move the stubborn Election Commission.

Anwar calls 500,000 to protest

Malaysia's opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim gestures to his supporters

Defying threats of arrest, organisers of anti-government rallies across Malaysia have called on 500,000 supporters to march on the country’s Election Commission to protest against election fraud.

The call was made to tens of thousands of people at a packed stadium near Kuala Lumpur early on Sunday where Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim demanded that Election Commission officials who oversaw racially divisive national elections on May 5 resign immediately.

”Now, now, now,” Mr Anwar shouted as the crowd roared.

Mr Anwar, a 65-year-old former deputy prime minister, said he planned to step-up a legal campaign over the results in 29 electoral districts after Monday’s deadline for complaints to be lodged.

The three-party Pakatan Rakyat opposition alliance won a majority of the popular vote at the election but the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition was returned with 60 per cent of seats because of a gerrymandered electoral system that favours Malay Muslims in rural constituencies.

The rally was the ninth that has drawn large crowds since the elections, which the opposition says were unfair and marred by vote rigging, claims the government denies.

Malaysia’s Home Affairs Minister Zahid Hamidi called the latest rally a ”provocation” but there has been no violence at any of the rallies as police have largely stayed away.

Four opposition politicians and activists have been arrested in the past few days on sedition and other charges, prompting opposition figures to vow to carry on with the protests.

”They are trying to frighten us into submission,” said Azmin Ali, deputy president of the opposition Parti Keadilan Rakyat. ”We must continue to stand up for our rights and dignity.”

No date for the march has been announced.

Meanwhile a secret pre-election pact between Mr Anwar and Prime Minister Najib Razak to respect the outcome of the election has emerged but both sides disagree on the details. Mr Najib has confirmed it was brokered by former Indonesian vice-president Jusuf Kalla.

Mr Anwar has acknowledged he made the pact in April but said it was rendered void by the way Barisan ran the campaign, singling out attacks on the opposition by the government-controlled media.

”How can you talk reconciliation when you demonise your opponent in this manner?” Mr Anwar told the Asian Wall Street Journal, which broke the story of the pact.

Selangor teruskan amalan isytihar harta

Posted: 30 May 2013 01:19 AM PDT

PKR: ‘Tak susah turun harga kereta’

Posted: 30 May 2013 01:16 AM PDT

Sinar Harian

ANWAR IS THIS, ANWAR IS THAT: Stop the bitching, 51% of this country likes him, OK!

Posted: 30 May 2013 01:13 AM PDT

Malaysia-Chronicle

It appears that since the 2008 elections there has been mounting arsenal targeted at one man – Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. And along with that snippets were also trained on anyone who aligned with this one man. That explains too then why Lim Kit Siang and several leaders within PAS were not spared too.

With the GE-13 wind of discontent gaining speed, DSAI suddenly becomes the mega-demon-monster. He is the prime target for everyone and anyone counting and betting on the BN-UMNO bandwagon ride to favors, fame and rewards. that includes the main stream media too.

Anwar is now the key crook wanting to destroy this nation. He is the one who is behind all of these surging Blackout 505 rallies.

Anwar is this. Anwar is that. Anything that is against the BN-UMNO agenda or mantra is because of Anwar.

The entire govt & machinery against one man

The flip side of this anti-Anwar madness also reveals how much an entire army of politicians, PDRM, EC, and all the entourage of BN-UMNO included, fear just one lone man. Does it not tell us much then?

Truly, a leader of contemporary times is one who has proven himself or herself through and through all the tests of times. In fact BN-UMNO patriots are already confirming this truth too.

Here is a man who has fought, and fought hard and withstood all the unending persecutions, fabrications, beatings, imprisonments, injustices, deprivations, humiliations – all of these and still commands a 51% following if not more.

That is truly great is it not?

Which one man or team of men and women within the BN-UMNO raider's ark can lay claim to what Anwar has persevered and achieved so triumphantly?

Political bankruptcy

In fact, even those who look up to Anwar and recognize his tenacity, endurance, conviction and commitment to battle on despite the avalanche of attacks, destruction and derailments are suddenly made out to be enemies and threats to BN-UMNO too.

How sad, how miserably sad. Indeed this is what we could term as political bankruptcy. When corruption, deceit, ill intentions and self-profiteering become a cancer, the perpetrators will certainly want to crucify their very enemy. And in this case it is Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

But let history remind us again.

If Anwar is made to fall, the nation drowns. But the same may not hold water for BN-UMNO.

If anyone within BN-UMNO or even BN-UMNO collapses, the nation will quickly rebound and rebuild itself. Now, please do not be tempted to translate this as seditious or treason! It is only a plain fact.

Of course all the pro-BN-UMNO diehards and especially its beneficiaries will not like this article. But the truth is, to haunt Anwar is to affront more than half the nation's popular conviction.

94 Graduan ISMP Belum Posting

Posted: 29 May 2013 05:47 PM PDT

Aduanrakyat.com.my 29 Mei 2013

Sekian, terima kasih.
